The revolution starts now.
Yes, the Steve Earle song is ever so appropriate as we got our first look at what we’ll see in Andor season 2 in a new trailer that dropped on Monday.
When we last saw Cassian he was telling Luthen Rael to either kill him or take him in, and it sure looks like Andor is fully in with the burgeoning rebellion. We hear Cassian say they’re in a war — do you want to fight or do you want to win, reminding us of the moral ambiguity the character showcased in the early acts of Rogue One.
The trailer goes on to showcase destruction, tie fighters, fighting, acts of rebellion as well as the returns of series regulars such as Luthen (Stellan Skarsgård), Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly), Dedra Meero (Denise Gough), Syril Karn (Kyle Soller) and Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona). But that’s not all. We also see glimpses of Rogue One stars such as Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker), Director Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) and K-2SO (Alan Tudyk). Krennic’s appearance has him overseeing the construction of the first Death Star and proclaiming what a swell party it is, further tying the series to Rogue One and the larger Skywalker Saga and serving as another forboding reminder of the ultimate fate of Cassian and his rebel friends at the end of Rogue One at the hands of the Empire’s ultimate weapon.
The trailer closes with Saw telling someone to remember this moment, that they’re ready to fight. We’ll see what that means for the nascent rebellion, for Luthen and his double life, for Mon Mothma and her efforts to take down the Empire from within the political machine, for Cassian and Bix, as well as for the will-they-won’t-they Imperial loyalists Dedra and Syril, who seemed like the Star Wars galaxy’s equivalent of Dwight and Angela from The Office. Andor season 1 was a critical darling and it will be interesting to see if anything in season 2 can match the electric monologue from Kino (Andy Serkis) in season 1.
We’ll all find out together beginning on April 22.
