The Pistons return from the All-Star break after an impressive first half of the season. Their rebuild is starting to turn into some success with Cade Cunningham leading the way.
Detroit is 29-26 and is on a four-game winning streak as it begins the last third of the NBA season. It’ll play the Spurs, who just lost Victor Wembanyama for the remainder of the season.

His first game back from the All-Star break should have been an exciting matchup between two rising teams. The Pistons and Spurs are both taking steps out of their rebuilds, but San Antonio hit a major road bump now that Wembanyama is sidelined for the remainder of the season with a blood clot in his shoulder.
The NBA continues on, and Cunningham will have an easier time attacking the rim in tonight’s game. The Spurs’ frontcourt is undersized without Wembanyama, so it’ll take a collective effort to keep Cunningham from scoring in the paint.
The first-time All-Star will get his buckets, but the Spurs will likely send multiple players at him in the paint. It’ll force Cunningham to kick the ball out on drives, finding open teammates for easy assists.
Cunningham is averaging 9.4 assists per game, so this line is right on his season average. He’s hit double-digit assists in 23 of 50 games this season, including three of his last six. Against the Spurs, Cunningham should be able to take advantage with Wembanyama not lurking in the paint.
