The Mexico Open will be played at VidantaWorld in Vallarta for the fourth straight season. VidantaWorld is a Greg Norman-designed par 71 golf course and ranges 7,456 yards. The Mexico Open field is lacking most of the top players on Tour but is a great showcase for some of the players who don’t make the field in the Signature Events. There is a field of 132 golfers, with a standard cut before the weekend. The Mexico Open has manageable rough and attackable Par 4s, so the biggest hitters typically thrive on this course. Recent winners include some of the world’s biggest hitters Tony Finau and Jon Rahm. There are typically very low scores at this tournament, so birdies will be plentiful all week.

Akshay Bhatia Top 10 (+160)
Akshay Bhatia (+1400) is the favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook to win the Mexico Open. It is not a very highly touted field, but that gives a player like Bhatia a great opportunity to try to pick up a win. Last season, Bhatia emerged as a serious player on the PGA Tour, competing in all four majors and almost every signature event. This season, Bhatia is in that middle ground where he will play in events like this to raise his profile and try to get a Tour win. However, he also will play in all the majors and signature events as well. Bhatia has two wins to his name on the PGA Tour, one in 2023 and one in 2024. Bhatia has also started the 2025 season on a strong note, finishing in the top 32 of all four events that he has played so far. He is coming into this event with great form after finishing T9 at the Genesis Invitational last week.
In addition to his strong recent form, Akshay Bhatia is a great fit for this course. Bhatia only played this tournament once, in 2023, and finished fourth with a total score of 18 under par. Bhatia was not as experienced a PGA Tour player as he is now and still managed a top-five finish on this course. Bhatia has played really well in these types of events on longer courses where scores need to go low and without the best players on Tour. Bhatia’s win in 2024 came at the Valero Texas Open where he finished at 20 under par on the tournament. The best comparison on Tour to VidantaWorld is the “resort courses” in the Caribbean. Bhatia has performed the best of anyone in the field in the Caribbean over his last 36 rounds there with 1.87 strokes gained.
My favorite prop bet for this tournament is for Bhatia to finish in the top ten. He is the best player in the field, but this prop can still be found at +160 at DraftKings Sportsbook. Bhatia is coming off of a top-ten finish in an exponentially tougher field on an exponentially tougher course. Between his course fit, his stellar form and the fact that he is one of the most talented players in the field, there is no reason to believe Bhatia won’t have a fantastic week in Mexico. Bhatia drives the ball well, puts well and his ball striking is some of the best on Tour at the moment. He finished fifth in strokes-gained ball striking at Torrey Pines last week against an elite field. Against this level of competition, Bhatia should shine and comfortably finish inside the top 10.
