College Basketball Best Bets: Picks for UConn, Kansas on February 18

It’s Super Tuesday on the college hardwood, and we have a pretty solid betting card to handicap. I put out a couple of college basketball picks on Twitter leading up to this slate, and will break them down below.

Villanova at UCONN (6:30pm ET)

Dan Hurley and the Huskies have been on an extreme rollercoaster ride of late. After coming back from double digits to upset Creighton in Omaha last week in one of their best wins of the season, they dropped an unthinkable game in overtime to Seton Hall on Saturday. The Pirates are one of the lowest ranked major conference teams in the country, taking down a UConn team that was around -1500 on the moneyline.

Now UConn returns to its home floor on Tuesday night, and you better believe we’ll get its best effort out of the gates. Hurley has to be fuming about the dreadful loss on Saturday, and I’d expect he has his players chomping at the bit to get out there on Tuesday and get back on track. On the other side will be a Villanova team that got a big upset win over St. John’s in Philly on Wednesday night, but then lost by double digits as a road favorite at Providence on Saturday. ‘Nova dropped to just 2-6 SU/ATS on the road this season, and will be walking into a buzzsaw against an angry UConn team. Looks for the Huskies to build a lead early.

College Basketball Pick: UCONN 1H -4 (-110) 1.5-units (play out to -4.5)

Kansas at BYU (9:00pm ET)

This one opened with BYU a -122 home favorite on the moneyline, but you can see on the DraftKings Sportsbook betting splits that the Cougars have been taking significant action, right here on DK Network. I agree with the move, and jumped in on BYU o Monday night, anticipating more movement.

Kansas has had a disappointing season, much of it due to road struggles. The Jayhawks sit just 3-6 SU/ATS in true road games, dropping each of their last three, including the last two as road favorites. That includes the first game of this road trip, losing at Utah on Saturday as a 6.5-point favorite. The three wins were over TCU, UCF and Cincinnati, all of whom are .500 or worse in Big 12 play.

Enter a scrappy BYU squad that’s 12-2 on their home court, with the only losses coming to Arizona and Texas Tech teams that have recently been ranked in the top-10. The Cougars took a red-hot Kansas State team (that recently defeated Kansas) and stomped them by 15 points on Saturday night. It’s tough to back the Jayhawks against any quality team that’s at home with a good advantage in their building, and this BYU team absolutely qualifies.

College Basketball Pick: BYU ML (-132) 1.5-units (play out to -140 ML or -3 ATS)
