The NASCAR Cup Series Daytona 500 is on Sunday and DraftKings is offering a new way to play fantasy NASCAR. The game is simple. Build a โPick Setโ (2+ drivers) and decide if they will outperform their stat projections. Here is some advice to help build your DraftKings Pick6 Pick Sets for the NASCAR Cup Series Daytona 500.
Joey Logano: Fast Laps – 3.5
Pick6 Play: Better
Joey Logano has a strong track record on superspeedways, with notable performances at both Daytona and Talladega. He secured a victory at the 2015 Daytona 500 and has consistently been a frontrunner in these high-speed, pack-racing environments. In the 2018 GEICO 500 at Talladega, Logano led a race-high 70 laps, showcasing his ability to navigate the draft effectively.
While leading laps doesn’t always correlate with recording fast laps due to the aerodynamic dynamics of pack racing, Logano’s skill in maintaining advantageous positions within the draft increases his opportunities to register fast laps. Given his experience and Team Penske’s history of fielding competitive superspeedway cars, picking Logano to exceed 3.5 fast laps is a strategic choice.
Kyle Larson: Finishing Position – 9.5
Pick6 Play: Better
Kyle Larsonโs superspeedway record isnโt great, but that doesnโt mean he wonโt finish inside the top 10 at Daytona. His 22.0 average finish on superspeedways suggests struggles, but recent results tell a different story. Hendrick Motorsports consistently brings some of the fastest cars to the track, and Larsonโs qualifying speed puts him in a strong position early. While past races have seen him caught up in the pack and wrecked, the Next Gen car has leveled the playing field. In last yearโs Daytona races, Larson finished fourth and 10th, proving heโs learning how to manage the draft and avoid trouble late in the race.
Finishing ahead of the 9.5 mark isnโt about past trendsโitโs about speed, survival and execution. Larson is one of the most talented drivers in the field, and at some point, that skill has to translate to a strong Daytona finish. The Daytona 500 isnโt about being the best superspeedway racer, itโs about being in the right place at the right time. With elite equipment and strong teammates like William Byron, Chase Elliott and Alex Bowman to work with in the draft, Larson has everything he needs to run up front. If he stays out of the big wrecks, expect him to be in contention at the finish.
