Alex Bregman was one of the prime free agents during the offseason, as the 30-year-old third baseman has a career .272/.366/.483 slash with an 11.9% walk rate, 13.4% strikeout rate and .210 ISO while playing excellent defense at the hot corner.

With the Houston Astros trading Kyle Tucker, it looked certain that Bregman would be finding a new home, but Houston did re-enter the sweepstakes and ended up battling with the Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, Chicago Cubs and Detroit Tigers for his services.

In the end, it was Boston that finally acquired Bregman with a three-year contract worth $120 million, which includes an opt-out after each season, per The Athletic’s Chandler Rome.

Bregman joins a talented lefty-heavy lineup in Boston, with Jarren Duran likely batting leadoff with Rafael Devers and Triston Casas in the heart of the order. Bregman will likely bat second with Trevor Story hitting behind the two lefties in Devers and Casas.

DK Sportsbook has Boston at +2500 to win it all, the 11th-lowest odds. Boston is +425 to win the AL East, behind the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles.
