A four-game, eight-team NBA slate is on tap for basketball fans on Tuesday. Among the matchups to watch, a playoff rematch between the Knicks and Pacers should make for appointment viewing. Later on, Ja Morant and the Grizzlies are set to visit Devin Booker and the Suns. Scottie Barnes more than 5.5 assists
It wasn’t the best Saturday for Scottie Barnes, who scored 15 points (6-19) against a tenacious Rockets defense. That shouldn’t take away from what’s been a solid 2024-25 campaign for the former All-Star. This season, the 23-year-old has averaged 19.9 points, 7.8 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game for the Raptors.
With RJ Barrett (concussion) out of action, there should be even more touches for Toronto’s face of the franchise tonight. Points might be difficult to come by against a stingy 76ers team. However, Philadelphia has allowed 27.6 assists per game, the seventh-highest mark in the NBA. With extra defensive attention, Barnes can act as more of a distributor rather than a scorer; expect the power forward to find his teammates early and often on Tuesday.
Pascal Siakam less than 7.5 rebounds
Over the span of one year, Pascal Siakam has taken the mantle of Indiana’s best player from Tyrese Haliburton. The three-time All-Star, who earned another selection this season, has been terrific once again. Through 51 games, the power forward has posted 20.7 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists while shooting 53.1% from the field.
Siakam was a force last spring against the Knicks, leading the Pacers to an Eastern Conference Semifinals triumph. However, he might have some difficulty grabbing rebounds tonight. New York has allowed 48.3 boards per game to opponents this season, the best mark in basketball. Indiana’s power forward is still a threat to score, but his contributions on the glass might be limited.
Nikola Vucevic more than 28.5 points + rebounds
It’s been a rough stretch for the usually dependable Nikola Vucevic. Over his last three appearances, the big man has put up just 10.7 points and 8.7 rebounds. That’s a steep drop off from his season-long output of 19.3 points, and 10.3 rebounds per game. While every player goes through a slump, it’s difficult for fantasy managers to trust the 34-year-old right now.
Typically, Vucevic’s recent play wouldn’t bode well going into Tuesday’s matchup. This season, the Pistons have allowed the fourth-fewest points in the paint (45.7) and the sixth-fewest rebounds (50.6) per game. However, the center has done well in this spot before, recording at least 29 points + rebounds in each of his previous five meetings with Detroit. Vooch isn’t the most enticing play on tonight’s board, which makes him the perfect buy-low.
Ausar Thompson more than 11.5 points
The Pistons are in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race, mainly due to the play of Cade Cunningham. With that being said, several contributors on Detroit’s roster deserve their own praise. Among the names worth mentioning, Ausar Thompson stands out. The former lottery pick missed the first two months of the season due to a blood clot. Since making his debut on November 25th, the forward has continued to progress on both ends of the floor. Over his last ten games, Thompson has averaged 11.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
Those numbers are more impressive given the wing’s 24.2 minutes per game during that time. Thompson enters tonight’s contest having recorded at least 12 points in each of his last five outings. He has a good chance at extending that streak tonight against a porous Bulls defense. Chicago has allowed 121.0 points per game this season, second-most in the NBA. The future is now for this 22-year-old; another solid scoring performance could be in the cards on Tuesday.
Matas Buzelis more than 12.5 points
Speaking of talented youngsters, Matas Buzelis is beginning to show his massive potential. The 20-year-old was drafted by the Bulls with the 11th overall pick last summer. However, it’s taken him some time to crack Chicago’s rotation. Following a flurry of trade deadline moves, minutes have opened up for the forward; Buzelis has tallied 15.6 points and 4.2 rebounds over his last five games.
On a (somewhat) tanking roster, the sky is the limit for Buzelis. Head coach Billy Donovan has given the rookie more playing time, starting him in Chicago’s last two contests. This season, the Pistons have allowed 115.2 points per game to opponents, tenth-most in the NBA. The future is now for the Bulls; the development of their most talented prospect is a priority going forward.
Kevin Durant more than 2.5 three-pointers made
For the first time in over a week, Kevin Durant (ankle) isn’t listed on tonight’s injury report. The timing is perfect for the Suns, who have dropped two of their last three games without the forward. Assuming he makes his return tonight, KD will hope to continue his stellar play this season. Through 39 games, the veteran has posted 26.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists while shooting 52.4% from the field (39.8 3PT%).
Some rust is expected after a week off, but Durant is set up for a big game tonight. The Grizzlies play at the fastest pace in basketball (104.19), often leading to shootouts. This season, Memphis has allowed 13.8 three-pointers made per game, the eighth-highest mark in the association. The future Hall of Famer should have plenty of opportunity to make his presence felt from beyond the arc.
