While the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles took up most of the attention during Super Bowl weekend, a headlined that seemed to fly under the radar is that the Jets informed Aaron Rodgers that they are moving on without him after two season.
Towards the end of the NFL season many speculated whether Rodgers would return to New York, however Mark Dominik believes that it was only a matter of time before the organization would make a determination with Rodgers. He noted that whomever was going to get the head coaching positon for the Jets was most likely coming in knowing what they were going to do with Rodgers. In essence Dominik believes that the Jets were being courteous by letting him now that they were going in a different direction.
On the bright side of things, Dominik praised Rodgers for how he played towards the end of last season and showed that he wants to continue to play. Given the quarterback quality that is in this upcoming draft, Rodgers could have some suitors. Dominik highlighted key teams that will be looking to add a quarterback such as the New York Giants, Tennessee Titans, and Las Vegas Raiders. As far as which one of those landing spots that would make the most sense, Dominik noted the Titans could work. He expressed he can see the Titans going the bridge quarterback route and potentially selecting a defensive lineman and allowing for Rodgers to take over signal calling duties in Brian Callahan’s offense.
Ross questioned whether or not Rodgers would be able to gel with a younger offensive coordinator such as Callahan, however Dominik pointed to his relationship with offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and how he enjoyed working with him despite it not working out in New York. When it is all said and done Dominik believes that Rodgers just wants to be with a coach that understands football and will also give him the flexibility he deisres at the line of scrimmage. If Rodgers lands with the Titans it will allow for quarterback Will Levis to learn from Rodgers. However Dominik explained that does not mean you give up on Levis however as he puts it you can’t have no plan for quarterback if you are the Titans.
Another team to keep an eye on is the Los Angeles Rams, depending on how things shake out with Matthew Stafford, Dominik contends that the city of angels could be a landing spot for Rodgers. For Dominik he does not see Stafford continuing to play under his current salary, so with Rodgers being on the open market he could see a scenario where the Rams rent the services of Rodgers for one to two seasons to keep their momentum going. Bottom line Dominik affirmed that Rodgers will be playing in the 2025 season.
