The Jets have been making wholesale changes this offseason and they have informed Aaron Rodgers that the team is moving on from the quarterback, per FOX’s Jay Glazer. Glazer is reporting if New York uses a post-June 1 designation on Rodgers, he will be able to sign with any team on March 12th if he plans to keep playing in the NFL, which is the assumption right now according to Glazer, after Rodgers made an effort to meet with the Jets last week.
After tearing his Achilles in his first game as a Jet in 2023, Rodgers struggled by his standards in his first full season with the team in 2024-25, leading New York to an ugly 5-12 record. In his 17 starts, Rodgers completed 63% of his passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Rodgers finished with an awful 48.1 quarterback rating, which is the second-lowest of his career and ranked 25th of 32 qualifying quarterbacks this season.
The Jets made many moves to please Rodgers during his time in New York, most notably trading for Davante Adams last season. The Jets gave up a 2025 third-round pick to land the receiver, who New York will also likely move on from this offseason.
It’s safe to say the Rodgers era was a failure for the Jets and starting fresh with a new quarterback is the right choice for this organization that just hired Aaron Glenn as its new head coach on a five-year deal. Plus, there were reports at the end of this season that Jets’ star receiver Garrett Wilson could demand a trade if Rodgers returned, giving the Jets another clear reason to move on from the 41-year-old.
While the Jets were a massive disappointment with Rodgers at the helm, he likely will be able to find another team to take him on as its starting quarterback if he does indeed plan to keep playing NFL football. One team that has been constantly brought up as a potential suitor for Rodgers has been the Cleveland Browns, as they are a club that is in dire need of more consistent play at the quarterback position. The Browns have a solid collection of pass catchers to lure Rodgers, including Jerry Jeudy and David Njoku, and Rodgers bringing the aforementioned Adams along with him to the Browns, or any team for that matter, wouldn’t be a surprise in any way, given their strong relationship.
Some other teams that are in need of a quarterback and could possibly give Rodgers a chance are the Tennessee Titans, New Orleans Saints and Las Vegas Raiders.
