The Super Bowl MVP is one of the most popular Super Bowl bets every season. This is a look at the Super Bowl MVP odds for Super Bowl 59 between the Chiefs and Eagles.
Super Bowl MVP Odds

The MVP is one of the most popular betting markets for every Super Bowl. The two quarterbacks almost always have the best odds to win the award but this year that is not the case. As the quarterback of the team favored to win the game, Patrick Mahomes does have the best odds to win the MVP. Mahomes has won the MVP of all three of the Chiefs’ prior Super Bowl victories so oddsmakers expect that trend to continue. However, it is Saquon Barkley with the second-best odds to win the MVP, with Jalen Hurts a bit behind him. Saquon Barkley has been the star of this offense and is the NFL Offensive Player of the Year. If the Eagles are going to beat the Chiefs, Barkley will need to create some explosive running plays like he has all season.
After that top three, there is a drop-off in the odds to some of the top skill position players. Travis Kelce has the best odds of any pass-catcher at +1500. He always steps up in the postseason and if he has a big Super Bowl performance, voters might want to finally give him a Super Bowl MVP. Xavier Worthy and A.J. Brown are the two top wide receivers on the odds board. Worthy is a dangerous dark horse for the MVP because he can score on running plays as well as passing plays which expands his potential stat line. A.J. Brown is the Eagles’ top receiver and he had a huge touchdown catch against the Chiefs in the Super Bowl two years ago.
Chris Jones at +6000 and Jalen Carter at +7000 have the best odds of winning MVP among defensive players. Both teams’ defensive tackles are monsters on the interior and could create some havoc. For a defensive player to win the MVP, it typically takes multiple sacks and a forced fumble, a key interception or even a defensive touchdown. It can be a top-tier defensive player like Von Miller that wins the Super Bowl MVP on defense or it can be a more obscure player that makes one massive play like Malcolm Smith from the Seahawks in Super Bowl XLVIII.
Here is a look at the odds market for which position will win Super Bowl MVP:

Quarterback is the heavy favorite as Mahomes and Hurts are two of the top three players on the odds board. Running back has better odds than it would in a normal year because of Saquon Barkley and wide receiver is a bit lower than it would normally be because there is no standout receiver on either side. Travis Kelce is carrying the tight end market although Dallas Goedert has had a great postseason as well. Then the odds get into each defensive position group with defensive linemen having by far the best odds of the group.
There have been 59 Super Bowl MVPs (in Super Bowl XII, two MVPs were given out) in NFL history. Of those 59 MVPs, 33 were quarterbacks, 8 were wide receivers, seven were running backs and ten played various defensive positions. Desmond Howard is the only player to ever win the Super Bowl MVP as a special teams player. To give a more recent perspective, over the past ten Super Bowls, seven quarterbacks have won the MVP, two have gone to wide receivers and one to a defensive player. So, quarterbacks have won an overwhelming amount of Super Bowl MVPs historically and in recent years, which is why they will always have the best odds of any position group.
