Ingram has not played since December 7th but has now been traded to the Toronto Raptors for Bruce Brown Jr., Kelly Olynyk, one first-round pick and one second-rounder.
When healthy, he is a viable scorer, averaging 22.2 points per game this season on 46.5% shooting from the field. The Pelicans are in full tank mode, as their 12-39 record is among the worst in the league. This trade helps them free up some money, as well as get some future assets.
As for Toronto, Ingram provides another key piece to the puzzle as they continue to strengthen their roster. Hopefully, Raptors fans don’t have to wait too long to see that come to fruition. Although unlikely, Toronto is only 5.5 games back of the final play-in spot in the Eastern Conference. Can Ingram make that big of a difference to their win-loss total this season? That remains to be seen. However, it’s a signal of intent from the Raptors front office that they want to start winning sooner rather than later.
