I feel like I’ve seen this story before…the Kansas City Chiefs in the big game with Taylor Swift cheering on the sidelines. ME!: Saquon Barkley to Have a 50+ Yard Longest Rush (+350): Immovable object vs. Unstoppable force. My favorite kind of matchup. In this case, I’m backing the unstoppable force, AKA Saquon Barkley. The Eagles’ offensive juggernaut has ripped a 60+ rush back-to-back in the playoffs including a 78-yard run vs. the Rams and a 60-yard touchdown on the first offensive play of the game vs. Washington. With a dominate offensive line to set him up, Barkley has generated 339 rushing yards after contact this postseason; however, the Chiefs’ defense has allowed just 2.4 yards after contact in the postseason, hence the immovable object (per NGS). Barkley has also reached a top speed of 20+ mph on 14 touches this season including in the postseason, giving me confidence in his ability to break off a big one in this game. I’m taking Barkley to the moon.
Mine: Travis Kelce to Have 87+ Receiving Yards & Score 1+ TD (+450): The stage is set perfectly for Mr. Kelce. A chance to claim his fourth Super Bowl ring, the possibility of retirement on the other side, and the opportunity to add to his resume of G.O.A.T tight end. Therefore, I’m expecting a big game out of #87. For a guy who had a quiet regular season, Kelce shines under the pressure of the postseason, totaling 174 catches, 2,039 yards, and 20 touchdowns in his playoff career. While Kelce wasn’t the main character in the AFC Championship vs. the Bills, he showed out in the Divisional round by pulling in seven of eight targets for 117 yards and a score. This Eagles’ defense is a different beast, though, sporting linebackers that have allowed the 3rd-lowest catch rate (69.9%) and the fewest yards per target (5.6) among linebacking units in the regular and postseason (per NGS). Meaning, Kelce’s yardage shouldn’t come from explosive plays, but consistency catching the ball over the middle and against linebackers in coverage. In both playoff games this season, Kelce has caught all five of his targets against opposing linebackers in coverage for a total of 98 yards and a touchdown, making 87+ yards and a score an appetizing bet for Super Bowl Sunday.
Deja Vu: KC Chiefs to Win by Exactly 3 Points (+750): Just as I said at the top of this article, I’ve seen this story before. Plain and simple, the Kansas City doesn’t lose. This isn’t a matter of refereeing or forces outside of the Chiefs themselves—we are in the midst of a historic dynasty that perfects the fundamentals of each unit while presenting premiere coaching on both sides of the ball each time they take the field. Plus, this squad is relentless in the fourth quarter. In the regular season, the Chiefs were victorious in 12 one-score games and won the last 17 one-score games they’ve played in. To add more evidence to their fourth quarter magic, the Chiefs victory in the AFC Championship Game was Patrick Mahomes’ seventh career game-winning drive in the playoffs, placing him second all time behind none other than Tom Brady. I’ve seen this story before, and won’t be shocked to get deja vu on game day.
