The NBA trade deadline week go off to a bonkers start late Saturday night, when Luka Doncic was shipped to the Lakers for a package centered around Anthony Davis in a deal that none of us saw coming. We got another big trade on Sunday night, with De’Aaron Fox headed to the Spurs and Zach LaVine going to the Kings. All of those players are featured in the Blockbuster Specials tab on DraftKings Sportsbook, and if any other big deals go down, you can expect those players to be featured as well.
Luka Doncic has a slew of props available in the tab, some priced as high as +2000. I’m going to take a shot at a more modest prop on Luka, particularly given the gap left at center with Davis now in Dallas. Doncic is available to record 15 or more rebounds in any game during the regular season at -125 odds. Assuming Luka is back in the next week and can stay healthy, he will have about two months of games to accomplish this.
Doncic’s season high for rebounds with Dallas was 13 during his 22 games played with the Mavericks. However, Luka has pulled down 15 or more boards on 21 occasions in his career, including four times last season. He’s actually done this multiple games in every season of his NBA career, and at least three times in each season following his rookie year — his high was six times in 2019-20. Doncic is fully capable of crashing the glass, and with Davis’ 12 rebounds per game leaving a huge hole in the middle for the Lakers, Luka and LeBron James should be counted on as the primary rebounders.
Maybe the Lakers make another move to address their lack of size and defense, but as the roster stands, Doncic should have plenty of rebounding chances to finish up the regular season in Los Angeles.
