DeAndre Hopkins is set to play in his first-ever Super Bowl in the 12th year of his great career. The Chiefs dealt with a load of brutal injuries to their skill-position players at the beginning of the season. They had to sign Kareem Hunt to fill out the running back room and several weeks later, acquired DeAndre Hopkins in a trade with the Titans. Even in Tennessee, DeAndre Hopkins was nowhere near the top-tier receiver he was in Houston or even for parts of his tenure in Arizona. However, Hopkins was a very experienced player that the Chiefs hoped could catch a few passes a game to supplement Travis Kelce and their young talent. Hopkins had a couple of solid games after first arriving in Kansas City but once other players got healthy, Hopkins’ role was diminished and he has virtually been a non-factor during the postseason. However, the veteran could have one or two more big plays in the tank for the biggest game of his NFL career.

DeAndre Hopkins has not had as much success as he and the Chiefs had both hoped when they made this trade in the regular season. Hopkins was brought in to fill the hole that the injured Rashee Rice and others had left in the Chiefs offense. Hopkins’ production had declined significantly in Tennessee but there was hope on both sides that with Patrick Mahomes throwing him the ball, he would look more like his younger self. Hopkins had a couple of good games at the start of his Kansas City tenure but by the end of the regular season and into the postseason, Hopkins has been reduced to a minimal role. Hollywood Brown getting healthy, “Playoff Kelce” emerging and the progression of Xavier Worthy have all led to the reduction of Hopkins’ role.
The lack of production from Hopkins so far in the postseason has actually provided a lot of value in the market on Hopkins for this game. My favorite prop bet is for Hopkins to have o1.5 receptions in this game. Being able to get this bet at +129 are fantastic odds. Hopkins didn’t have a catch against Houston in the Divisional Round but he did have one catch on two targets against the Bills in the AFC Championship Game. However, in the regular season, Hopkins had at least two catches in all 10 games he played with the Chiefs. Hopkins is still a formidable red-zone target and has gotten looks down there all season and on key third downs elsewhere on the field. Hopkins has sure hands and if he can get two targets like he did against the Bills, there is a good chance he will catch them both. The Chiefs always break out some new wrinkles after each round of the playoffs and getting Hopkins more involved could be something Andy Reid looks to do in the Super Bowl.

DeAndre Hopkins has lost any real fantasy value in the postseason. He was struggling in Tennessee to start this season but had a couple of big games after arriving in Kansas City. He had eight catches for 86 yards and two touchdowns in his second game with the Chiefs and it looked like he had found a second life with Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid. However, Xavier Worthy began to really develop as the Chiefs’ top receiver, Hollywood Brown returned from injury and the Chiefs started to distribute the ball more to the likes of JuJu Smith-Schuster and Noah Gray instead of Hopkins. Once the postseason started, Hopkins’ role was basically completely cut as a huge majority of the targets started going to Travis Kelce, leaving just a few other targets to go to Worthy and Brown. Even if Hopkins makes a surprise one or two big plays, he still isn’t a viable option for any DFS lineups for the Super Bowl.
