We have a short slate of college hoops on Friday night to get us ready for a monster Saturday card, on the first weekend without football in a while. I like a couple of home teams on Friday, so let’s dish out some college basketball picks below.
Butler at Georgetown (6:30pm ET)
Georgetown is off consecutive losses, falling in Ed Cooley’s return to Providence last Saturday, and then laying an egg in a blowout loss to St. John’s. The Hoyas should come out and give their best effort at home on Friday night, and I expect it to have an impact against a Butler team that’s been unable to breakthrough on the road. Georgetown has won just one of its last seven games, but has been priced as an underdog in five of those outings. Prior to that, the Hoyas collected conference wins over Seton Hall and Xavier, priced as short favorites. Meanwhile, Butler is 0-5 on the road this season, and have lost its last nine games when priced as an underdog. I’ll back the Hoyas to get out to an early lead coming off an embarrassing loss, and cover the short spread against an inferior Butler squad.

Dayton at Saint Louis (7:00pm ET)
After an impressive start to the season, Dayton has really slowed down, particularly in A-10 play. The Flyers are just 2-8 ATS over their last 10, and 3-9 ATS in their last 12 conference games, dating back to last season. Dayton is just 1-3 in true road games this season, and 2-6 away from home when you include neutral site games (although many of those came against strong competition in early season tournaments). The Flyers have played seven games in A-10 play this month, and while they’ve been favored in all seven, they’re just 3-4 straight up. This is the tightest spread they’ve seen yet, opening as an underdog, although they’ve been bet to the favorite as of Friday morning. I’m going to back Dayton’s struggles being for real, and back a Billikens squad that’s an impressive 10-1 at home this season. Saint Louis is playing good basketball, and off an impressive win as a home dog over VCU. Look for them to thrive in that role again on Friday.
