Remember Immanuel Quickley? That guy who signed a five-year, $162 million contract this past offseason? Well, he hasn’t played much in 2024-25. Quickley was injured in Toronto’s first game of the season and, since then, he’s started only eight games due to a variety of ailments. His latest malady has been a hip issue that’s cost him the last eight contests. However, he’s been listed as questionable for Friday’s game against Chicago, along with Gradey Dick (illness), Kelly Olynyk (calf) and Jamal Shead (illness).
The odd thing about the eight-game stretch that Quickley has missed? The Raptors have actually been pretty good. In fact, in their last eight contests, Toronto is 7-1 with a +9.0 net rating and a 103.0 defensive rating that is the best mark in the NBA in that specific stretch of time. That’s not a knock on Quickley, who has proven to be a very good player when given the opportunity, but more an endorsement of Davion Mitchell’s defensive prowess — the man who has replaced Quickley in the Raptors’ starting five.
Mitchell would return to a reserve role if Quickley ends up available versus the Bulls. Quickley’s presence would also obviously impact the fantasy value of Scottie Barnes and RJ Barrett, though one much more significantly than the other. Barnes is actually averaging 1.28 FPTS per minute with Quickley off the floor this season, just slightly more than the 1.27 he produces with his teammate on. It’s Barrett who sees the short end of the stick, going from 1.23 FPTS without Quickley to 0.98 FPTS when the guard is healthy.
