Top NBA DFS Stacks for January 29

Top NBA DFS Stacks for January 29

By: Zach Thompson

The NBA is ready to roll this Wednesday with nine games on the main slate on DraftKings, which tips off at 7:00 p.m. ET. The Sixers are the only team on the main slate playing for a second day in a row, although the Cavs and Wizards do have to keep in mind they have another game on Thursday to finish their back-to-back sets. With 18 teams in action on the main slate, there are several strong options that jump out as top NBA DFS stacks to consider for Wednesday, January 29.

Injuries are a key factor to watch for your stacks and your lineups in general. Keep a close eye on today’s injury article for the latest availability updates as we approach tip-off. With what we know going into the afternoon, though, here are my top NBA Stacks of the day:

Boston Celtics vs. Chicago Bulls

The Celtics took a tough loss on Monday to the Rockets, and they’ll look to bounce back as they host their Eastern Conference rivals from Chicago. The Bulls will be without Zach LaVine (personal) and also likely Coby White ($6,200; ankle), who is officially questionable but seems closer to doubtful. The Celtics also have a key injury to watch with Jayson Tatum ($9,600; knee) questionable. There is still some usage to be decided, but the Celtics are in a good place to put up points, so whoever is available will be a strong stacking option.

Core Plays: If Tatum is ruled out, Jaylen Brown ($7,600) would take over as the focus of the offense, and he averaged 48.2 DraftKings points in the three games Tatum has missed this season. Derrick White ($6,700) also stepped up, averaging 39.9 DraftKings points in those three contests. Kristaps Porzingis ($6,900) could also help carry the load after posting at least 33 DraftKings points in nine straight appearances.

Value Options: Since both Sam Hauser ($3,400; hip) and Al Horford ($4,200; toe) are also questionable, the Celtics may have to go with smaller lineups. Either Hauser or Horford could be strong value options if they play, but Tatum does not. They could also rely more on Luke Kornet ($4,200), who played 33 minutes and had 30.75 DraftKings points on Monday. In the backcourt, Peyton Pritchard ($5,000) is always a good option when work is available, and he could help clean up garbage time if this game gets lopsided.

Toronto Raptors at Washington Wizards

The Wizards continue to be a great matchup to stack against, since they allow the most points in the NBA. They play with the fourth-fastest pace on the season and have the worst defensive rating in the Association. The Raptors also play fast, ranking ninth in pace. Toronto will still be without Immanuel Quickley (hip), and they added Gradey Dick ($4,300; illness) to the injury report as questionable along with Kelly Olynyk ($3,600; calf).

Core Plays: The reigning Eastern Conference Player of the Week, Scottie Barnes ($9,300) is in a great space without Quickley since he’ll play plenty of point guard minutes against the defense that has given up the most fantasy points per game to opposing point guards. Barnes has 50+ fantasy points in three of his last four and is coming off a monster night on Monday when he came up just short of a triple-double with 21 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists while leading the Raptors to their fourth straight win. RJ Barrett ($7,800) and Jakob Poeltl ($6,600) are also in good matchups; Poeltl is coming off 53 fantasy points in that win on Monday.

Value Options: Coming off the bench, Bruce Brown ($4,500) has chipped in solid numbers in the Raptors’ recent surge. Brown could end up an even stronger play if Dick is unable to play. Davion Mitchell ($3,800) continues to start but play mostly just low-usage minutes. Chris Boucher ($4,000) has had some strong games over the last week, and he’ll be a good value play if Olynyk is out again, but he could get squeezed into fewer minutes whenever Olynyk is ready to return.

Charlotte Hornets vs. Brooklyn Nets

The Hornets are one of the top NBA DFS stacks to check out this Wednesday, not because they’re expected to score a bunch of points, but because they will be without so many key players. The absences of LaMelo Ball (ankle), Mark Williams (foot), Josh Green (foot) and Cody Martin (abdomen) will leave plenty of usage available for the rest of the roster. Finding the right options from Charlotte will enable you to pay for the superstars you want on the rest of your roster.

Core Plays: Without Ball and Williams, Miles Bridges ($8,200) will have to carry the offense. Bridges had 26 points and 46 fantasy points on Monday in the game in which Ball left, and he has averaged 44.6 fantasy points in his four games without Ball and Brandon Miller (wrist), who is out for the season. He’ll get all the usage he can handle, while Vasilije Micic ($5,300) will likely fill in for Ball in the starting five, and Nick Smith Jr. ($5,000) will pick up more work on the wing.

Value Options: The main bargain value to consider from Charlotte is center Moussa Diabate ($3,700). Diabate had 33.25 fantasy points on nine points and 13 rebounds on Saturday when Williams was out, and he was the primary producer in the middle even though Taj Gibson ($3,000) got the start. With Green and Martin out as well, there are even more minutes on the wing and Josh Okogie ($4,300) should be in a great spot. The veteran does a little of everything and has already become a crowd favorite in Charlotte. He had 19 points and 33 fantasy points on Monday, but he was even better last week against Portland, when he had 16 points and 10 boards on his way to 40 fantasy points. With all the usage available, he has that kind of potential alongside Bridges in the frontcourt on Wednesday.

He has been playing fantasy sports since box scores were only available in the newspaper the following day. Even though he grew up almost 8,000 miles away in Guam, he is a diehard Boston sports fan but will take a fantasy value play wherever he can get it, even if it’s from the Yankees.
