We’re down to one football game left this season, which means March Madness is approaching. Time to shift some extra focus to college hoops, and we’ll start now with a strong Super Tuesday betting card in front of us. Here are some plays I’m on.
Kentucky At Tennessee (7:00pm ET)
The Vols are off a heartbreaking loss at No. 1 Auburn on Saturday night, losing by a bucket in an absolute grinder of a game. However, returning home should be just what Tennessee needs, sitting at a perfect 11-0 at home with a margin of victory of 26 points per game — including an 18-point MOV in three SEC home games. Enter a Kentucky squad that’s 1-2 on the road in SEC play, and is coming off consecutive losses. The Wildcats will be without the focal point of their offense in Lamont Butler, and another starter in Andrew Carr is questionable. This is a strong spot for the Vols to pounce early, and I’ll lay the steep number on the first half spread.
The Play: Tennessee 1H -5.5 (-115) 1-unit
UCF at Kansas (8:00pm ET)
This is a pretty similar handicap to Tennessee, as Kansas is coming off honestly one of the worst losses I have ever seen. I backed the Jayhawks on Saturday when they hosted Houston, and despite leading by six points with a little over a minutes left in regulation, the game went to overtime. Kansas then led by six points and was headed to the free throw line with just 18 seconds left in the game. The Jayhawks puked all over their shoes again, and somehow let the game get to double overtime, where they lost. Bill Self is not the type of coach that’s going to let his team off the hook for a choke like that. I’m sure they’ve been getting drilled the last 72 hours, and will come out playing with a purpose on Tuesday. UCF just happens to be the team in their way here. Look for the Jayhawks to get up big early.
The Play: Kansas 1H -7.5 (-110) 1-unit
Oregon State at Gonzaga (11:00pm ET)
Gonzaga bounced back from a two-game losing streak on Saturday, pounding Portland on the road by more that 40 points. The Bulldogs’ losing streak began last week in Corvallis, falling to the Beavers, 97-89. While Oregon State is an impressive 13-1 at home, it has just a 1-4 record on the road, and will be going into a rowdy atmosphere that’s seeking revenge in Spokane. Like the other plays, I’ll be backing the Zags on the first half line, but I’m even more confident in their ability to score in this game. Even in the loss, the Zags dropped 89 on the Beavers, who have allowed three of their last four conference opponents on the road to top 80 points. Meanwhile, Gonzaga has gone for 99 points and 105 points in the two games since facing Oregon State. In eight conference games, the Zags are 7-1 to the over on a team total set at 83.5, with 81 points in the lone under. They’re averaging 92.5 points in those eight games. Great spot for the Bulldogs to drop a big number.
