A massive fourteen-game, 28-team NBA slate is on tap for basketball fans on Saturday. Among the matchups to watch, a Western Conference Finals rematch is on tap between the Nuggets and Timberwolves. Elsewhere, the upstart Rockets travel to Cleveland to take on the Eastern Conference-leading Cavaliers. Jrue Holiday more than 9.5 points
In an NBA Finals rematch, the Celtics will look to rebound from a 21-point loss vs. the Lakers. Boston’s roster is ridiculously deep, making it difficult for anyone that doesn’t have the initials ‘JB’ to score consistently. That includes Jrue Holiday; the veteran is averaging just 11.4 points on 44.8% shooting this season.
As great as Holiday was last year, he’s become difficult to trust on offense. Look no further than Thursday’s three-point outing in Los Angeles. However, this is a spot the guard has typically thrived in. Including the postseason, Jrue has scored 10 or more points in nine of his last ten meetings with Dallas. As streaky as Holiday can be, a matchup with the Mavericks should get him back on track.
Mark Williams more than 12.5 rebounds
Mark Williams has always flown under the radar, even during his college days at Duke. Now, with Nick Richards traded and Brandon Miller out for the season, the third-year pro could have a bigger role with the Hornets. Over Williams’ last six games, he’s posted 23.3 points and 13.2 rebounds on 63.2% shooting from the field.
Teams that struggle to box out are at a clear disadvantage against Charlotte’s talented seven-footer. That includes the Pelicans, a guard-heavy group that relies heavily on rookie Yves Missi down low. This season, New Orleans has given up the fourth-most rebounds to opponents (54.8). With the way Williams has played lately, there’s no reason he can’t enjoy another big day on the glass.
Paul George more than 20.5 points
The beleaguered 76ers finally got a glimmer of hope by defeating the Cavaliers on Friday, 132-129. Leading the way was Paul George, who dropped 30 points in the victory. Great games have been hard to come by this season for the veteran after signing with Philadelphia this summer. Through 29 games, the wing has put up 17.4 points on 42.8% shooting from the field (36.5 3PT%).
As mediocre as those numbers are, there’s signs that PG-13 could be returning to form. Since January 1st, the nine-time All-Star has produced 21.8 points per game (46.8 FG%). That should continue on Saturday against a Bulls team surrendering the second-most points in the association (121.0). Trusting George is a scary proposition for most fantasy basketball managers, but there’s plenty to like about tonight’s matchup.
Steph Curry more than 6.5 assists
Following a terrific 10-2 start, the Warriors have spiraled into mediocrity with a 22-22 record. There’s a ton of blame to go around, but Steph Curry’s statistical decline has had arguably the biggest impact. This season, the two-time MVP has generated 22.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 6.3 assists on 44.8% shooting. For most players, those are great numbers. For future Hall of Famers, it’s not enough production for a team hoping to compete in the Western Conference.
Curry may need to act as a playmaker rather than a scorer if Golden State is to win tonight. The Lakers are allowing 27.7 assists per game to opponents, seventh-most in the NBA. Over Steph’s last ten outings vs. Los Angeles, he’s averaged 7.6 assists. In a marquee matchup, look for the ten-time All-Star to dish out some quality passes to his teammates.
Nick Richards more than 9.5 rebounds
The Suns decided to shake things up last week, pulling off a trade with the Hornets for Nick Richards. The fifth-year pro had been stuck in a committee down low, splitting time with Mark Williams and others. In Phoenix, the center has immediately taken on a starting role. The results through three games have been terrific: 11.0 points and 10.0 rebounds on 75.0% shooting from the field.
Regardless of how good or bad any player has been, a date with the Wizards is fantasy basketball gold. This season, Washington is giving up the most points (122.4) and the most rebounds (57.2) to opponents. With such limited competition on the roster, Richards has an easy path to 30+ minutes…as long as this game stays close. Still, the big man snagged 15 boards in just 22 minutes vs. the Nets on Wednesday. Even on a short workload, Phoenix’s newest acquisition should deliver on Saturday.
Damian Lillard less than 3.5 three-pointers made
After an up-and-down 2023-24 campaign for the Bucks, Damian Lillard has bounced back this season. Through 35 games, the guard has posted 25.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 7.2 assists while shooting 44.9% from the field. Despite some defensive shortcomings, the veteran has earned strong consideration for his ninth career All-Star Game selection.
With that being said, Lillard could be in for a rough night on Saturday. Milwaukee’s opponent, the Clippers, have allowed the third-fewest points in basketball this season (106.6). Los Angeles has been especially tough on the perimeter, surrendering the second-lowest three-point percentage in the NBA (33.8%). Dame is still capable of putting up points, but most of his buckets should come from inside the arc.
