Just ahead of his first round tee time Wednesday, Zalatoris withdrew from the Farmers Insurance Open for a reason that has yet to be announced. With Zalatoris out, Robert Garrigus enters the field.
Zalatoris dealt with a major back injury in 2023 that required surgery and one has to wonder if this withdrawal is due to another back issue. After struggling last summer, Zalatoris finally looked like himself recently, making six straight cuts coming into this week, including four top 20 finishes, one of which was a T12 at the American Express last week. The 28-year-old posted a pair of 66s during this finish and he has shot under par in seven of his last eight rounds.
Given this encouraging form and that Zalatoris has finished T13 or better in three of his last five starts at the Farmers Insurance Open — most notably with a runner-up in 2022 — Zalatoris figured to be a decently popular DFS option this week, as well as in the betting market. On DraftKings Sportsbook, 8% of the bets and 11% of the handle were on Zalatoris to win the Farmers Insurance Open.
