NBA Power Rankings: Thunder ascend to top spot, injury-plagued Mavericks falter

As the NBA trade deadline approaches, there is plenty to monitor around the league and how things could change outlooks in the title race. With Jimmy Butler at the forefront of the latest rumors, plenty of reshuffling that occurs as contenders attempt to add more firepower.

At the top of the league, the Oklahoma City Thunder and Cleveland Cavaliers are locked in a battle for supremacy. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Donovan Mitchell have emerged as MVP candidates, propelling their teams to the top of their respective conferences. Elsewhere, teams like the Boston Celtics and Memphis Grizzlies are positioning themselves for deep playoff runs, while others face questions about their roster construction and postseason viability.

Among teams facing critical challenges are the Dallas Mavericks, who continue to deal with significant injuries that could shape their season’s trajectory. Luka Doncic remains sidelined with a left calf strain, an injury that has limited his play to just 22 games this season. Adding to their woes, Dereck Lively II is reportedly set to miss multiple months due to a fracture in his foot, further testing the depth and resilience of the Mavericks’ roster.
