A five-game, ten-team slate is on tap for basketball fans on Tuesday. Among the matchups to watch, a crosstown battle between the Knicks and Nets stands out. Later on, a desperate 76ers team will look to secure an upset win over Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets. With several big names suiting up, there’s plenty of ways to get in on the action with DraftKings NBA Pick6 selections ahead of tonight’s matchups!
Jalen Brunson more than 24.5 points
Jalen Brunson has been on a tear lately, scoring over 30 points in four of his last five outings. Another solid stretch from the All-NBA selection shouldn’t come as a surprise at this point. This season, the 28-year-old is averaging 26.2 points, 3.0 rebounds and 7.4 assists while shooting 48.8% from the field.
Brunson’s success relies heavily on his ability to hit shots from deep. The guard has connected on 39.3% of his three-point attempts this season, making an average of 2.3 per game. That’s perfect for tonight’s matchup, as opponents have connected on 38.0% of their three-pointers against the Nets. With the threat of JB’s shooting, it will be difficult for Brooklyn to slow down New York’s All-Star.
Jaime Jaquez Jr. more than 3.5 rebounds
The Heat still have plenty of quality depth pieces with or without Jimmy Butler. That includes Jaime Jaquez Jr., who has posted 9.6 points and 4.8 rebounds this season. Even though he’s currently coming off the bench, it’s clear that Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra trusts the second-year pro. Through 37 appearances, the UCLA alum has played just under 24 minutes per game.
Miami could be in store for a productive Tuesday night. The Heat host a Trail Blazers team allowing the eighth-most points (117.3) and the fifth-most rebounds (53.6) to opponents. Jaquez Jr. has gone over this number in five of his last seven outings, recording 4.7 boards during that time. Whether or not he starts, the 23-year-old should make his presence felt on the glass.
Jakob Poeltl less than 13.5 points
Most of Toronto’s offense has revolved around the duo of Scottie Barnes and RJ Barrett. However, don’t forget about Jakob Poeltl. The tenth-year pro has had one of his best seasons yet, posting 14.8 points, 10.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. As always, the Austrian has been quite efficient, shooting 61.1% from the field.
With that being said, Tuesday is a brutal matchup for any center. This season, the Magic are surrendering the second-fewest points (103.5) and points in the paint (44.6) to opponents. Poeltl did tally 25 points against Orlando on January 3rd, but that came without Barrett in the lineup. It’s difficult to envision the veteran having two straight high-scoring games against one of the NBA’s elite defenses.
Paolo Banchero more than 1.5 three-pointers made
Speaking of Orlando, the team got a major boost with the return of Paolo Banchero. The former Rookie of the Year, out due to an oblique injury, played for the first time in over two months on January 10th. In the five games since, the power forward has recorded 21.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and 4.0 assists.
If there’s one flaw in Banchero’s game, it’s his shooting; the Duke alum hasn’t connected from beyond the arc in each of his previous two outings. If there’s a team that can reverse that trend, it’s the Raptors. This season, Toronto has allowed the third-most three-pointers made to opponents (14.4) and the seventh-highest three-point percentage (37.0%). As inconsistent as his shot can be, Paolo is more than capable of knocking down a pair of treys.
LeBron James more than 9.5 assists
The Lakers aren’t in the best spot, having lost four of their last six games. Still, Los Angeles is fortunate enough to have two elite superstars on its roster. Once again, 40-year-old LeBron James has led the way. The ageless wonder is enjoying another All-NBA season, averaging 23.8 points, 7.4 rebounds and a team-leading 8.9 assists.
The unstoppable force that is LBJ gets to face an incredibly moveable Wizards defense tonight. Washington has allowed the most points (122.4) and the fifth-most assists (28.4) per game this season. While nothing is guaranteed, a triple-double performance from James would hardly register as a shock. Look for The King to have his way against a feeble opponent on Tuesday.
Alex Sarr more than 10.5 points
A silver lining to a disastrous Wizards season has been the continued growth of Alex Sarr. The seven-footer, drafted last summer with the second overall pick, has taken some time getting adjusted to the NBA. Through 37 games, he’s posted 11.6 points and 6.7 rebounds while shooting a subpar 40.0% from the field.
While the Frenchman hasn’t been very efficient, he has improved as a scorer. Over his last 16 games, the 20-year-old has reached double-digit points 19 times. On paper, the Lakers and Anthony Davis appear to be a difficult matchup. However, Los Angeles has allowed 52.0 points in the paint per game, third-most in the association. Sarr has the perfect opportunity to go over this modest total on Tuesday night.
