For months, it looked like Jamal Murray would never recapture his fringe All-Star form again. While representing Team Canada in the Olympics in the summer, Murray was a disaster on both ends and borderline unplayable. As a slower-than-average combo guard, Murray’s game revolves around crafty moves to generate slivers of space and burying tough shots. The already slow veteran looked out of juice fighting for a medal, which carried over to start the season.
Murray seems to have regained his confidence over the last few weeks. His body language has been better on the floor, and he looks more decisive in his approach. The shot has started to come around, shooting over 50% from the field in four straight outings. He’s still a sniper from deep, hitting 38% of his attempts from beyond the arc, but his mid-range and around-the-rim efficiency have drastically raised his ceiling.
Murray’s scoring output is finally coming around. He has hit the 20-point mark in three of his last four performances, falling short by just a point in the game he didn’t. Murray gets to continue his tear against a Philadelphia bunch that is trying but failing to get out of the bottom of the East. The 76ers are 26th in defensive rating across their last 15 games and look mentally checked out far more than engaged. Murray is catching fire and ready to return to contributing to a contender.
