In the latest cruel twist in a disappointing season for the Minnesota Timberwolves, guard Donte DiVincenzo has been ruled out indefinitely with a toe injury, per ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Since he was acquired from the New York Knicks in the Karl-Anthony Towns blockbuster in October, DiVincenzo has been somewhat inconsistent, but he had started to find his groove in recent weeks since usurping veteran Mike Conley’s spot in the starting lineup. Throughout his six-game starting stint, DiVincenzo averaged 17.5 points per game and shot 42% from beyond the arc.
His absence will provide a big blow to a Minnesota team that has made 15.3 three-pointers per game (the third-most in the league) at a 38.4% clip. Without him in the lineup, Conley will reclaim his starting role. The 37-year-old has averaged a career-low 7.9 points per game this season and posted the lowest Value over Replacement Player since his rookie season.
