The Farmers Insurance Open is one of the best events of the year on the PGA TOUR. This season, the tournament is going to be hosted Wednesday-Saturday in order to avoid competition with the NFL conference championship games on Sunday. Torrey Pines is one of the best venues that the PGA TOUR visits every year and the two courses available on the property make it one of the most unique events of the year. The first two rounds of the tournament will be played on the North course (7,258 yards, par 72) and the South course (7,802 yards, par 72), and then the final two rounds will be hosted on just the South course.
Day has a great course history at Torrey Pines. He has won the Farmers Insurance Open twice, in 2015 and in 2018. Day has finished in the top 10 at this tournament in seven out of 15 starts. Day finished T-3 in 2022 and T-7 in 2023 at the Farmers, so he has good recent success in addition to his two career wins. Day is already off to a good start in 2025 with a T-3 finish at the American Express open last weekend. Torrey Pines is known for its brutal Kikuyu rough. The rough is really thick and grows in different directions, making it incredibly difficult to hit out of. Being able to hit fairways and green is essential to success in this tournament.
Day ranks fifth on Tour in greens in regulation percentage so far this season. Even when he misses greens, Day is one of the best around. He finished ninth on Tour in scrambling from inside 10 feet of the green last season. So whether he hits the green or just misses, Day should be able to get good scores while others struggle in the rough. Last season, Day also ranked ninth in strokes gained putting and sixth in one-putt percentage. He has all of the skills needed to perform at this course and a good course history.
My favorite prop bet for this tournament is for Day to finish in the top 10 at odds of +240. Day has finished in the top 10 seven times at this event, making it one of the best-performing events of his career. Day proved that he can still compete at this level against a good field with his T-3 finish at the American Express Open last week. Day should carry that momentum into one of his favorite events where Torrey Pines is a great course fit for his game. Day should be in competition to win the event and finish in the top 10 for the third time in the past four years.
