James Cook has already had the pleasure of squaring off with the Baltimore front seven this season, and it didn’t go well for the 25-year-old back. In a game Buffalo trailed from the opening kickoff, Cook had just nine carries for 39 yards. Offensive coordinator Joe Brady has made Cook’s attempts a staple of early downs. That predictably was an issue against the team with the second-best EPA against the run.
A lot has changed in four months. The Buffalo offensive line has become one of the more dominant units in the league, with tackle Dion Dawkins a notable All-Pro snub. The addition of Amari Cooper on the outside has made the aerial attack more potent, which has opened up rushing lanes for Cook and quarterback Josh Allen.
Baltimore likely won’t be able to stack the box this time around and force the Bills receivers to beat sticky-man coverage. The pass catchers have been too explosive and can challenge the Ravens’ secondary over the top. That puts Cook in a more advantageous position to succeed, where he’s thrived throughout this campaign.
