Kyrie Irving Injury Update for January 14 vs. Nuggets

After losing to the Nuggets on Sunday, the Mavericks are hosting Denver again Tuesday, but they may have Irving back in the lineup. The guard has missed five games in a row with a back injury, but Irving fully practiced Monday, and he has been listed as questionable for Tuesday’s contest.

Irving is averaging 24.3 points, 4.9 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game this season. If he returns Tuesday, Irving should see an even larger workload than usual, with Luka Doncic (calf) still sidelined without a timetable for a return. With Doncic off the court this season, Irving’s usage rises 3.5 percentage points to 30.2% and his assist rate increases 2.3 percentage points to 23.1%. In the 10 starts he has made with Doncic inactive this season, Irving is averaging 25.1 points, 5.4 assists and 4,8 rebounds per game. Also, we can expect Naji Marshall to revert to the bench if Irving returns and all of Dallas’ key players to see lower usage rates.

The Mavericks are 7-3 in games with Irving in and Doncic out this season, but they are facing a Nuggets team Tuesday that has won seven of their last 10 and just got Aaron Gordon (calf) back in the lineup Sunday. Even if Irving suits up, Dallas will likely be an underdog for this contest on the DraftKings Sportsbook.
