Nick Taylor ($7,100; 130 FPTS) is a PGA vet, having joined the Tour in 2015 and played 283 events since then. He made the cut 177 times and notched four wins. Not many were expecting him to do well in his 284th PGA Tour event, as only 5.02 percent rostered him in the $500K Pitch + Putt tournament, but Taylor got his fifth career victory at the Sony Open in Hawaii after a two-hole playoff.
Taylor went four-under on Thursday with only one bogey. On Friday, he had two bogeys and finished two-under heading into the weekend. Saturday was an unblemished round with five birdies.
On Sunday, Taylor had three birdies sandwiched around two bogeys. He birdied the first two holes on the back nine and needed an eagle on Hole 18 to earn a playoff.

After two playoff holes, Taylor became the Sony Open in Hawaii champion.

Taylor beat Nico Echavarria ($7,300; 126 FPTS) in the playoffs. Like Taylor, Echavarria was rostered on only 5.92 percent of teams in the $500K Pitch + Putt tournament.
Echavarria went four-under on Thursday with one bogey. On Friday, it was a clean round with three birdies. Saturday was also an unblemished day with four birdies.
Sunday’s final round didn’t begin so well, as Echavarria bogeyed the first two holes. He bounced back with four birdies, though, with a three-birdie streak on Holes 7, 8 and 9. To start the back nine, Echavarria had two birdies sandwiched around a bogey in the first three holes. He ended the round with a birdie on Hole 16 then a birdie on Hole 18, putting the pressure on Taylor.
