PG Chris Paul ($6,000)
It wasn’t that long ago that Chris Paul was putting on a nightly show at the now Crypto.com Arena. On the brink of 40, the “Point God” is at a far different point in his career but is still excelling. Paul dominates the ball as the primary facilitator, helping get San Antonio into its offense. As dominant of a force as Victor Wembanyama has become, he isn’t elite at creating his own offense. Being able to dart to the basket after a pick and roll with a generational passer or receive the occasional entry pass has transformed his effectiveness and this team’s ceiling.
Paul’s taken advantage of helping elevate the franchise cornerstone by being more aggressive himself offensively. CP3’s had consecutive outings with double-digit shot attempts, including knocking down five triples in his recent showing against Milwaukee.
If Wembanyama doesn’t score over 30, this team sorely lacks scoring. Paul isn’t going to be able to fill that void consistently, but he’s still a good enough shooter to be dangerous. The mid-range jumper is still automatic, and he can knife through defenders to get to the cup. In his former city against one of his best friends, LeBron James, Paul will turn back the clock.
PG/SG Shaedon Sharpe ($5,900)
Lost in the tumultuous Portland rebuild is the curious case of Shaedon Sharpe. In his third year as a pro, Sharpe is starting to pop, scoring at least 20 points in three consecutive games. He’s still just 21 and has a stellar athletic profile. He’s an impressive combo guard who can be a primary ball handler or work on the wing, rising up from deep or slashing to the rim.
Sharpe’s ceiling has stagnated at times because of his inconsistent form from downtown. He’s shooting 31% on the season from distance and is taking over six a night. Sharpe has found his range lately, hitting ten of his last 20 field goals from beyond the arc. Miami is a sinking ship, and the “Heat Culture” defense has deteriorated. It’s a favorable matchup for Sharpe, who is in the best form of his young career.
