Penn State and Notre Dame face off in the Orange Bowl with a trip to the National Championship Game on the line. Here is how to bet on player props for this game at DraftKings Sportsbook.
Orange Bowl: Penn State vs. Notre Dame
Harrison Wallace 45+ Receiving Yards (-115)
Penn State has dominated their first two opponents in the College Football Playoff. They defeated SMU 38-10 and Boise State 31-14, dominating on both sides of the ball in both of those games. This Notre Dame defense will be exponentially tougher than either of those defenses, however. The Irish rank 2nd in the nation in defensive EPA/play this season and are elite against the run and the pass. Notre Dame plays very aggressive defense in the secondary and Penn State’s best shot to move the ball could be by hitting deep shots down the field. If they choose to do that, Harrison Wallace will be the go-to guy. Notre Dame is likely to key in on Penn State TE Tyler Warren, the best tight end in college football. He is going to get a lot of safety attention in the middle of the field and that should lead to single-coverage situations on the outside.
Harrison Wallace is the Nittany Lions’ leading receiver after Tyler Warren and will be the go-to guy for Drew Allar on the outside in this game. Wallace is a deep-ball threat, averaging over 15 yards per catch this season. He could reach the 45 yards needed to hit this bet on just one or two deep receptions. Georgia had an incredibly inexperienced quarterback making his first career start in the quarterfinals against Notre Dame and he still managed to hit some deep shots down the field, including a 67-yard longest completion. Notre Dame trusts their corners on the outside but Wallace has the chance to take advantage of that trust by winning a couple of one-on-one battles and catching some deep balls to go over this number. Wallace has hit this number in nine of his past ten games and should do so again in the Orange Bowl.
Jeremiyah Love Anytime Touchdown (-105)
Jeremiyah Love has been one of the best running backs in college football this season. He has been integral in getting Notre Dame to this point but he went down with a knee injury in the quarterfinal matchup against Georgia. Love did not return to the game against Georgia and was questionable to play in this game. However, on Wednesday morning, Marcus Freeman announced that Love would be “good to go” for the national semifinal against Penn State.
Before the Georgia game that he left early with an injury, Love had scored a touchdown in every single game this season, totaling 18 touchdowns in 13 games. Love led the Notre Dame rushing offense that finished ninth in the nation in EPA/rush. Penn State has a great defense and Notre Dame will likely approach this game the same way that they approached the Georgia game. They will look to run the ball, control the time of possession, trust their defense and then hop on any opportunity to steal points. If Love isn’t at 100%, he might not get as heavy of a workload as he typically does but will be reserved for red zone touches as the Irish look to get the couple of touchdowns needed to win the game. Love has scored in every game that he has played in full this season but there is a discounted price for him to score in this game because of his injury status. I am happy to take the discounted price and bet on Love to find the end zone for the 19th time this season.
