Wednesday night brings us one of the marquee games of the NBA regular season, as the 31-4 Cleveland Cavaliers host the 30-5 Oklahoma City Thunder. The Cavs opened as a two-point home favorite, and have taken overwhelming early money. While I like Cleveland for the full game, I have a different angle that I’ll be backing in this one.
Oklahoma City Thunder at Cleveland Cavaliers (7:00pm ET)
Both of these teams have been tremendous all season, but Oklahoma City is off its most impressive win of the season. The Thunder trailed the Celtics by double digits at halftime on Sunday afternoon, but held the defending champions to 27 points in the second half, en route to a 13-point victory. It was an eerily similar win to the one they had on their home floor on Friday night, overcoming a large deficit to the Knicks to come back and win with conviction.
Despite some signature wins recently, OKC has now trailed at halftime in each of its last four games, including by double digits at home to Boston and New York. Now the Thunder will be on the road, facing what’s sure to be a hyped up Cavs squad and home crowd. While OKC has slipped to an average 18-18 1H ATS this season, the Cavs are a dominant 14-5 1H ATS in their own building this season.
While I like Cleveland for the game, I think the stronger play is on the Cavs getting out to a good start in this one. I’ll play on them for the first half in one of the biggest spots of the regular season.
PLAY: Cavs 1H -1 (-110) 2-units
