UPDATE: Jordan Love was a full participant in practice on Friday and he does not carry an injury designation for Sunday’s contest against Philadelphia.
During the Green Bay Packers’ Week 18 loss to the Chicago Bears, they had two key players exit with injuries and not return — not exactly what fans wanted to see headed into a playoff run.
One of those injured players, wide receiver Christian Watson, tore his ACL and will miss Green Bay’s playoff run.
The other was quarterback Jordan Love, who fell hard on his elbow and briefly lost feeling in his throwing hand. Although he did not return to the game, Love — and the team — expressed confidence that he’d be able to play in the Packers’ Wild Card Round matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. ET. At DraftKings Sportsbook, Green Bay is currently a 4.5-point underdog and the point total is set to 45.5, although both of those numbers would likely change if Love is ruled out.
Given head coach Matt LaFleur’s assertion that Love could have gone back into the game last Sunday and the fact that Love at least participated in warmups in Wednesday’s practice, there’s no reason for Packers fans to be concerned that he won’t play.
That’s good news for Green Bay, whose backup, Malik Willis, has rarely been asked to throw the ball, even if he did well in a two-game starting stint while Love was sidelined with an MCL sprain. Given that the Eagles have one of the best rushing defenses in the league, having a reluctant passer would likely doom the Packers’ chances of advancing to the Divisional Round.
