The PGA TOUR stays in Hawaii for the second straight week for the Sony Open at Waialae Country Club (par 70, 7,044 yards, Bermuda greens) in Honolulu. This is a field of 144 golfers and there will be a standard top-65 and ties cut after the first 36 holes.
Below, I have featured my favorite Taylor Pendrith bet to consider for the Sony Open.
Taylor Pendrith for a Top 20 Finish (+150)
Taylor Pendrith is an outstanding bet for a top 20 finish at this +150 price. The Canadian finished T10th at last year’s Sony Open in just his second attempt at Waialae CC and returns to the track in terrific form.
In his last seven starts, Pendrith has finished T13th or better six times, including a T13 at last week’s Sentry. In that start, Pendrith carded an eight-under 65 in the second round and he finished the tournament fifth in SG APP and 15th in SGP, marking the fifth time in his last six starts that Pendrith has gained strokes with both his irons and flat stick.
When we analyze this field’s last 24 rounds, Pendrith ranks sixth in total strokes gained, ninth in SG APP, ninth in SGP and 11th in par four efficiency, setting him up perfectly for a par 70 like Waialae CC. Of the last five victors at this Hawaiian venue, two have finished the event top-three in both SGP and par four efficiency.
Pendrtih’s outstanding play has moved him up to No. 44 in the World Golf Rankings, which is a career best and 60 spots higher than the ranking he carried heading into his T10 at last year’s Sony Open. Taylor Pendrith checks all the boxes this week and getting him to finish inside the top 20 at this +150 price is highway robbery.
