Basketball fans will be treated to a seven-game, 14-team NBA slate on Tuesday night. Among the marquee matchups, a battle between Jayson Tatum’s Celtics and Nikola Jokic’s Nuggets could serve as an early Finals preview. Elsewhere, LeBron James and the Lakers will hope to pick up a road win against the shorthanded Mavericks. With so many big names suiting up, there’s plenty of ways to get in on the action with DraftKings NBA Pick6 selections ahead of tonight’s matchups!
Bradley Beal more than 14.5 points
Sitting outside the playoff picture with a 15-18 record, the Suns decided to make a major change. Head coach Mike Budenholzer opted to have Jusuf Nurkic and Bradley Beal come off the bench on Monday vs. the 76ers, hoping to infuse a lackluster second unit with some much-needed scoring. The results were solid, as Beal put up 25 points over 30 minutes during Phoenix’s 109-99 victory. Still, it’s fair to wonder how limited the 31-year-old’s production will be in this new role.
With that being said, we’re still talking about a three-time All-Star. Even if his minutes see a slight dip, Beal’s stats shouldn’t take much of a hit. Taking the floor without Kevin Durant or Devin Booker should give the sharpshooter more opportunities to control Phoenix’s offense. The Hornets are a solid defensive unit, but they are giving up the seventh-most three-point attempts to opponents (39.1). That’s enough reason to back Beal on such a reasonable total.
Spencer Dinwiddie more than 4.5 assists
Now that both Luka Doncic (calf) and Kyrie Irving (back) are injured, the Mavericks are in desperate need of offense. Head coach Jason Kidd sent out an unorthodox lineup on Monday, opting to go with Klay Thompson and Naji Marshall at guard. Whether or not that group gets the nod again, there’s still a clear need for a distributor in Dallas.
Enter Spencer Dinwiddie. The former Net has started in just six of his 34 appearances this season. However, he’s easily the most qualified ball handler currently on Dallas’ roster. Over 14 games played without just Doncic, the veteran has posted 5.1 assists. That’s promising against a Lakers team giving up the seventh-most assists to opponents (27.9). Dinwiddie isn’t the most consistent player in the NBA, but the Mavs don’t have any better options at guard.
Alperen Sengun less than 22.5 points
Alperen Sengun’s rapid progression into a top-tier center often flies under the radar. The fourth-year pro is enjoying another terrific season, recording 18.8 points, 5.0 assists and 10.4 rebounds on 48.9% shooting from the field. With that kind of production down low, it’s no surprise that the 23-12 Rockets have become one of the Western Conference’s most formidable teams.
Houston’s excellence actually works against its best player tonight. The Wizards, one of basketball’s worst teams, stand little chance of pulling out a win on Tuesday. That could turn this game into a blowout rather quickly. Sengun hasn’t cleared this total in six of his previous eight appearances. Even if the center dominates, he might not get enough playing time to reach 23 points.
Russell Westbrook more than 24.5 points + rebounds + assists
After a tough first month, Russell Westbrook has become a secret weapon for the Nuggets. Despite intending to use him off the bench, head coach Mike Malone has opted to start the veteran over Denver’s last six outings. The results have been terrific: 11.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 8.3 assists on 58% shooting from the field.
For as good as Westbrook has been, his production can be sporadic; that makes P+R+A the safest play. The future Hall of Famer has gone over this number in eight of his last 11 appearances. The Celtics are stiff competition, but there should be enough opportunities to make plays in a potential shootout. Look for the nine-time All-Star to make his mark in a number of different ways on Tuesday.
Rudy Gobert more than 11.5 rebounds
For all of their well-documented issues, the Timberwolves still possess one of the association’s best defenses. This season, Minnesota is holding opposing teams to 108.0 points, fifth-best in the NBA. At the (literal) center of it all is Rudy Gobert. The Frenchman’s numbers have taken a dip, but he’s still averaging 10.5 rebounds and 1.4 blocks through 35 games.
Gobert is a more inconsistent player so far, but he’s still capable of dominating in the right matchup. That could come tonight against a Pelicans team giving up 54.4 rebounds to opponents, fourth-worst in basketball. New Orleans did hold the big man to five rebounds on January 3rd, but that had more to do with him playing just 24 minutes. Coming off of an 18-rebound outing vs. the Clippers, expect another solid showing from Rudy tonight.
Derrick White more than 3.5 rebounds
The Celtics are off to another stupendous start, sitting at second in the Eastern Conference with a 26-10 record. Narrowing down one key to Boston’s success is a fool’s errand, but a secret weapon? That would have to be Derrick White. The guard may never get the love of his All-Star teammates, but he’s the glue that keeps the defending champs churning. This season, the Colorado alum is putting up 17.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.4 assists on solid 45.2/39.2/82.2 shooting splits.
Tonight’s primetime showdown presents the perfect opportunity to back White on the glass. The Nuggets are normally a good rebounding team, thanks in large part to the play of center Nikola Jokic. However, Denver has given up 60.7 boards over its previous three outings, second-worst in the NBA. It might be a bit of a sweat, but White has gone over this modest total in three of his last four appearances. There’s a lot to like about Boston’s stellar guard in this one.
