It’s been an ugly 2025 so far for the Miami Heat as they wrestle with the Jimmy Butler drama. The good times were good: two Finals appearances, a strong relationship with the Heat’s other prominent players, and excellent two-way play that embodied what the Heat stand for.
But good times don’t last forever. They’re now experiencing the lows of Butler, who took a similar approach when dramatically forcing his way off the Timberwolves. He’s not quite storming into the practice gym to assemble the third-teamers yet, but we may be nearing that territory soon. The Heat are now shopping him around the league outside of his preferred destinations. It behooves them to move Butler as quickly as possible before things get ugly.
In the West, the Thunder (30-5) are still firing on all cylinders and have ripped off 15 wins in a row even without Chet Holmgren. Uh oh. They’re seven games ahead of the second seed Rockets (23-12), who just lost Jabari Smith Jr. for an extended period of time due to a freak incident prior to tip-off; he now has a broken hand.
In the East, the Cavaliers still maintain a lead over the second-seed Celtics and have almost the same record (31-4) as OKC. These two powerhouses will face off on Wednesday the 8th in a huge matchup between the league’s two strongest teams.

Stream ’em
Ryan Dunn, SF, Phoenix Suns
I’m not particularly excited about Dunn given his performance in his last few starts. In his last four, Dunn averaging 9.5 points and four rebounds per game. The blocks have also been appealing, and we’ll see whether his starting role translates into more minutes, which means more blocks. I’m not holding more than a few games, though, in case the next candidate on this list becomes the primary beneficiary of Beal and Nurkic’s benching.
Grayson Allen, SG, Phoenix Suns
It’s surprising that Allen was not promoted to the starting lineup. He’s an excellent floor spacer and impressed in his first game back from a five game absence: he registered three triples, 13 points, four rebounds, six assists, and a block. Allen’s three point shooting will be invaluable to the Suns and I could see him getting that starting nod over Ryan Dunn soon.
Quentin Grimes, SG/SF, Dallas Mavericks
Dallas will now be missing both Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic on Monday night. While Spencer Dinwiddie stands to be the primary beneficiary, we have to be at least a little intrigued by Grimes’ last game, in which he delivered a beautiful 26 point with six assists on 9/14 shooting line in 33 minutes. In fact, in his last five games, Grimes has averaged 15.4 points, five rebounds, and 2.2 threes on 46.6% shooting from the floor and 38% from beyond the arc. Now we subtract Irving from the mix. I’m very curious here.
