I’m really curious to see how Denver plays in the postseason. The Broncos may not do much this year, but they are a team on the rise. Going forward, they are absolutely going to be the biggest concern for the Chiefs in that division.
Now, the playoffs are a totally different dynamic. Rookie quarterbacks tend to not do well in the postseason. But I think Bo Nix has shown that he is capable of making big plays in big moments.
Sean Payton has a great defense, and he’s found what he believes is his next Drew Brees. The fact that they made the postseason carrying that big of a dead cap hit on Russell Wilson’s contract is absolutely amazing.
The Broncos could go one of two ways on Sunday: They could fall apart or they could really give Buffalo a difficult test.
Jaguars made an odd move
I’m surprised that Trent Baalke still has the general manager job in Jacksonville after Doug Pederson was fired. That’s going to make that job less attractive.
The Jaguars have a lot of really good pieces. Trevor Lawrence needs to stop regressing — the last two years, he’s gone the wrong way. But, you have a quarterback, a young wide receiver that is doing really good things and some other capable weapons.
I’m really surprised they didn’t clean house completely. Now, I’m wondering if a lot of desirable candidates will say, “There are some things in Jacksonville, but I don’t like the structure that’s in place.”
Lions finally get No. 1 seed
The most impressive thing from Sunday night’s game was how the Lions’ defense played.
Some of their performance was the mixture of it being the final game of the regular season with everything being on the line and the Lions’ chance to be the NFC’s No. 1 for the first time in franchise history. But, they have been ravished by injuries on that side of the ball. How much better they played vs. the Vikings was my biggest takeaway.
Bengals’ problems beyond Lou Anarumo’s coaching of defense
The Bengals need to realize that games in September count as much as games in December.
For years, Anarumo was the guy that had the Patrick Mahomes code. They were the only team that couldn’t figure out Mahomes on a regular basis. Then, he loses players and it’s his fault?
If people are upset with the way the Broncos got in, then someone should play better in September. That Week 18 game counts exactly as much as those Weeks 1 and 2 games that, every year, the Bengals find a way to lose.
Play better in September and this won’t be a problem for you.
