Guard
Stud
Austin Reaves, Los Angeles Lakers at Houston Rockets ($7,200) โ There are over 10 guards with higher price tags on Sunday’s slate. Almost all of those options have questionable tags. Reaves has a tough matchup, but his salary is nearly $1K lower than his price on Friday. That was a game where LeBron James ($10,000) and Anthony Davis ($10,500) both played. There is a good chance that one of those players rests due to the Lakers’ schedule. Reaves is still in play if both play. He’s emerging as a bonafide star with the departure of D’Angelo Russell.
Other Options โ Stephen Curry ($8,500)
Value
Keon Ellis, Sacramento Kings at Golden State Warriors ($3,600) โ This price is irresponsible. Ellis is a starter and averages 35 minutes per game. It’s possible that DraftKings believes Ellis’ emergence is temporary. He’s filling in for the injured Keegan Murray ($4,800) and Murray could return on Sunday. That’s a theory. Here is a fact. The Kings are 2-0 with Ellis starting. The Kings’ new coach Doug Christie clearly likes Keon and Keon likes Dougโ26.8 FPTS and 30.5 FPTS.
Other Options โ Devin Carter ($3,000)
Forward
Stud
Evan Mobley, Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Charlotte Hornets ($7,700) โ It takes a reset. There is a new normal. Big men hit threes. Nikola Jokic leads the league in three-point shooting. Mobley is shooting 43.5% from beyond the arc. There’s another reset. Most have already turned the power off and back on. They’ve ejected the cartridge and given it a blow. The Cavs are the best team in the NBA. It’s not close. Wrap your mind around it. Accept it. Mobley is it. The 2021 NBA Draft No. 3 Overall Pick is an all-star. The only worry for Mobley is a blowout win over the hapless Hornets.
Other Options โ LeBron James ($10,000)
Value
Josh Green, Charlotte Hornets at Cleveland Cavaliers ($4,200) โ Location. Location. Location. Strike that. Wrong industry, Minutes. Minutes. Minutes. That’s where value is generated in the DFS industry, The stars need them and the scrubs need them. The great get greater and the weak become slate breakers. With LaMelo Ball out, Green stays out. On the court, that is. The Hornets don’t have the necessary backcourt depth. Green isn’t great but he’ll play 30 to 35 minutes. That’s a safe 20-25 FPTS.
Other Options โ Amen Thompson ($4,200)
Center
Stud
Walker Kessler, Utah Jazz at Orlando Magic ($6,300) โ The Magic play great defense but their front-court defense is lacking due to injuries. Average centers are posting perfect shooting nights in this matchup. The Jazz are not in the playoff hunt. They’re in development mode. The second-year center does not have a minute limit. He’s a rebound machine facing a Magic lineup that misses a lot of shots. Kessler doesn’t need to score double-digit points on Sunday because 20 rebounds are coming his way.
Other Options โ Domantas Sabonis ($9,000)
Value
Trayce Jackson-Davis, Golden State Warriors vs. Sacramento Kings ($5,000) โ Triple Jack scored 15 FPTS on Jan. 2. This was on the heels of six straight of 29 or more. He topped 40 FPTS in the two games before the disappointing showing. What gives? The Warriors beat the 76ers by 34 points. The poor fantasy score wasn’t just a lack of minutes. Although it was a factor. TJD didn’t step onto the court in the fourth. It was the way the Warriors one. Golden State couldn’t miss a three. Those aren’t his shots and those are his rebounds. Triple-Jack does his work at the rack and he got back to his racket Saturday by racking up 35.25 FPTS.
Other Options โ Trey Lyles ($3,700)
