What happened to Jabari Smith Jr.?

Jabari Smith Jr. fractured his left hand during shootaround on Friday. There’s been no mention of how the injury occurred. Smith will be out out four-to-eight weeks.

Smith hasn’t been great this season, as his scoring, rebounding and assist numbers have decreased from last year. The blocks have seen a slight uptick, though. That said, Smith has played in every game and, at 6-foot-11 and 220 pounds with the ability to stretch the floor on offense and switch on defense, he’s been a valuable piece for the Rockets.

Tari Eason would be the obvious replacement, but he’s out with a leg injury. This should open up significant playing time for Cam Whitmore, who has played 45 percent of the time at power forward this season.
