Jalen Brunson has been listed as questionable for Friday night’s game against the Thunder, along with backup PG Deuce McBride. Both players missed Wednesday night’s Knicks win over the Jazz as well. If both players are unable to go again, it leaves the Knicks incredibly short-handed in the backcourt. The Knicks were able to pick up a win over the lowly Jazz despite playing Cam Payne for 36 minutes. It will be much tougher to pull off a win over the Thunder with a similar rotation to Wednesday night’s.
The Thunder are the #1 team in the Western Conference and are playing at an extremely high level. They are #1 in the NBA in defensive rating and make it incredibly difficult on their opponents every night. However, over the past month, the Knicks are playing as well as anybody in the NBA. New York enters this matchup on a nine-game winning streak and they are now just a game behind the Celtics, looking to replace them as the #2 team in the Eastern Conference standings.
If the Knicks are going to extend their winning streak to double digits, particularly if Jalen Brunson does not play, they will need a huge game from Karl-Anthony Towns. Towns has been everything Knicks fans could have hoped for and more. Brunson and Towns have almost identical scoring numbers this year and have formed the perfect partnership. Towns is also second in the NBA in rebounds per game and have adapted to the physical style of play that Tom Thibodeau employs with all of his teams.
My favorite prop bet for this game is for Towns to go over 22.5 points. With Brunson out against the Jazz, Towns stepped up and scored 31 points and 21 rebounds. As the Knicks look to extend their winning streak to ten games and knock off the Western Conference’s top team, they should put forth a huge effort tonight and Towns will have to lead the way. Even if Brunson decides to play, he will likely be limited on minutes and Towns will still be the primary scoring option. Towns has scored 30 or more points in three straight games and should keep that streak going to easily clear his points prop in this game.
