After exiting Wednesday’s victory over the Magic on a stretcher, it appears that Jaden Ivey might have played his final game of the 2024-25 season. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Ivey has suffered a broken fibula in his left leg.
It’s a heartbreaking turn of events for both the former lottery pick and the Pistons as a whole. In his third NBA campaign, Ivey finally seemed to be finding his footing, averaging career-highs in points (17.6) and rebounds (4.1) per game. Ivey was also shooting 46.0% from the field and 40.6% from three-point range, which were career-bests, as well.
Detroit is 15-18 under new head coach J.B. Bickerstaff and appears to be on-pace to at least make the Play-In Tournament by season’s end. However, Ivey was a massive element of the team’s new-found success. Ivey ranks second on the Pistons in usage rate (26.3%) and minutes per contest (29.9). With Ivey unavailable, look for Tim Hardaway Jr. and Malik Beasley to carry a larger load. Cade Cunningham could also gain even more responsibility.
