Devin Haney returns to the ring this Saturday, April 20 opposite Ryan Garcia, as the two are scheduled for 12 rounds. Live coverage from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY starts at 8 p.m. ET on DAZN. This super lightweight fight was supposed to be for Haney’s WBC belt, but Garcia missed weight by 3.2 pounds.
Nonetheless, the two discussed a plan in case Garcia were to miss weight and it seems like Haney is now due an extra $1.5 million. The two agreed that if Garcia were to come in overweight, he would owe Haney an additional $500,000 per pound.
Garcia’s missing weight is no surprise, as the 25-year-old has been making questionable social media posts ahead of the bout and some pretty ludicrous statements. It’s unfortunate that his recent antics have overshadowed the potential prize fight between two fighters entering their prime. Entering with a record of 24-1, winning 20 by knockout, Garcia still has promise. However, he will no longer have an opportunity at the WBC super lightweight title.
Haney has been the complete opposite, polished and weighed in exactly at the 140-pound threshold. This will be his second fight at super lightweight, last December he shut out Regis Prograis 120-107 x3 in his debut. “The Dream” already achieved undisputed status at 135 pounds, picking up wins over the likes of Vasiliy Lomachenko, George Kambosos, and Joseph Diaz Jr. He’ll look to extend his unblemished 31-0 record, by boxing clean and landing with precision.
Haney is a -900 favorite to win. Garcia is a +600 underdog, with the favored method of victory being Haney to win by decision (-105), according to DraftKings Sportsbook.

While there are no official numbers, multiple reports indicate there is an effective 55/45 split in favor of Garcia. To the surprise of some, Garcia is the bigger draw and based on his behavior he’s been acting like it.
Haney and his father Bill, agreed to the shorter split despite him holding the title. An official purse number for Haney has not been disclosed. In his recent bout against Prograis, Haney revealed in a Twitter exchange with UFC fighter Sean O’Malley he made around $6 million via TalkSport.
Former boxing champion Oscar De La Hoya hinted that Garcia could bring in a total close to $30 million for this fight in an interview with DAZN. There is no doubt that Garcia has done everything he can to sell the fight, his massive Instagram and Twitter following earned him an extra 5 % of the split.
There’s one thing for certain, since their amateur days these fighters have brought out the best out of each other. Come Saturday, we’ll see how Garcia handles himself in the ring and if Haney can continue his road toward undisputed status in a second weight class.
