Guard
Stud
Darius Garland, Cleveland Cavaliers at Los Angeles Lakers ($7,200): I love Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, but not crazy about the matchup and price. The other options don’t enamor me either, so Garland it is. The price is palatable and I think he can score close to the more expensive options. Garland has put up over 40 FPTS in each of the last three games. These teams met on October 30th and Garland put up 32.5 FPTS in only 22 minutes due to blowout.
Other Options: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander ($11,000), Donovan Mitchell ($8,400), Desmond Bane ($7,500), Norman Powell ($7,400), Austin Reaves ($7,300)
Value
Donte DiVincenzo, Minnesota Timberwolves at Oklahoma City Thunder ($4,600): I hate the matchup, as OKC is tops in defensive efficiency by a wide margin. That said, I don’t think the price has caught up to the recent increase in playing time and production for DiVincenzo. For much of the season, Divincenzo was struggling, playing in the mid-20s. Over the last two games, though, he’s received 34 and 37 minutes, finishing with over 40 FPTS in both contests. There’s no guarantee that he continues to see that workload or be as productive, but ride the wave until it crashes.
Other Options: Scotty Pippen Jr. ($5,800) if Morant is out, Kris Dunn ($4,200), Sam Merrill ($3,600)
Forward
Stud
Evan Mobley, Cleveland Cavaliers at Los Angeles Lakers ($8,000): Mobley has leveled up in his fourth NBA season. The defensive prowess has always been there and he’s showed the ability to score from all three levels, but Kenny Atkinson has made Mobley more of a focal point on offense. Over the last three games, he’s put up 44.75, 50.5 and 56.25 FPTS. He’s gone over 60 FPTS twice this season. Back in the October 30th meeting against the Lakers, Mobley only finished with 29.75 FPTS, but that’s because he only played 19 minutes due to blowout. He shot 12-of-16 in that contest!
Other Options: LeBron James ($9,700), Kevin Durant ($9,600), Jaren Jackson Jr. ($8,700), Desmond Bane ($7,500), Norman Powell ($7,400)
Value
Max Christie, Los Angeles Lakers vs. Cleveland Cavaliers ($4,000): I’m not feeling the value at forward on this slate. I was tempted to just leave this section blank, but I’m a man of the people. Christie is a low-usage player who is out there for defense, but he has shown the ability to make it rain from downtown and attack closeouts. He’s put up at least 23 FPTS in each of the last three games, playing at least 32 minutes in all those contests.
Other Options: Dean Wade ($4,100)
Center
Stud
Victor Wembanyama, San Antonio Spurs vs. Los Angeles Clippers ($11,600): Wembanyama got off to a relatively slow start this season, posting five sub-40 FPTS games in the first nine contests. He did go for 70.25 FPTS during that span, so the upside was shown. Since then, he’s gone over 40 FPTS in every game, with seven over 60 FPTS and two of those over 80! Wembanyama can put up 40 points, 15 rebounds and 10 blocks while dishing out a few dimes and notching some steals. It’s scary because we haven’t seen the ceiling. Wembanyama faced the Clippers back in early November and put up 70.25 FPTS.
Other Options: Kevin Durant ($9,600), Jaren Jackson Jr. ($8,700), Evan Mobley ($8,000), Ivica Zubac ($7,700)
Value
Mason Plumlee, Phoenix Suns vs. Memphis Grizzlies ($4,500): Jusuf Nurkic is out, so Plumlee will make his second start in a row. On Saturday, he played 26 minutes and contributed two points, nine rebounds, six assists, a steal and a block, translating to 25.25 FPTS. Plumlee has put up at least 20 FPTS 10 times, with two over 30 FPTS.
