Victor Wembanyama best prop bets for December 29

As the NBA searches for the next face of the league, Victor Wembanyama has done everything possible to boost his candidacy. Last year’s No. 1 overall pick has taken a significant stride forward in his development and has the San Antonio Spurs right in the playoff mix in a deep Western Conference.

Opponents will continue to keep Wembanyama atop scouting reports for the next 15 years. This will be the case tonight as the Spurs prepare to face off with the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Timberwolves hold a half-game lead over the Spurs in the Western Conference with the two teams currently seeded at eighth and ninth. This is an interesting measuring stick matchup for both teams before the new year.

The Timberwolves enter this game as 6.5-point favorites and hold -238 odds on the moneyline. The Spurs hold +195 odds on the moneyline on DraftKings Sportsbook and the game total is set at 215.5.

Wembanyma’s props are listed at over/under 24.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 3.5 made three-pointers, 3.5 blocks and 38.5 combined points, rebounds and assists.

Victor Wembanyama Over 3.5 Made Three-Pointers (+120)

The pathway to becoming a true NBA superstar does not seem overly lengthy for Wembanyama. The Spurs star has taken a notable leap forward in his second season and is averaging 25.2 points, 10.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists and a league-best 4.0 blocks per game this season.

One of the largest areas of growth has been his impact from beyond the three-point arc. Wembanyama has seen a significant increase in his three-point production this season. He is connecting on 36.1 percent of his long-range attempts and attempting 9.3 shots from the perimeter. He ranks eighth in the league in three-point attempts.

The Spurs will face the Timberwolves tonight. This will feature a matchup with his French counterpart Rudy Gobert. While Gobert has four Defensive Player of the Year awards to his name, he struggles when asked to defend the perimeter. This combination of size and skill is what makes Wembanyama so special and will put Gobert in a tough spot.

Wembanyama has made over 3.5 three-pointers in 12 of the 26 games this year. This includes four of the past five games where there seems to be a particular focus on creating perimeter looks. Wembanyama has made six or more three-pointers seven times this season including three times over the past 10 days.

Expect Wembanyama to continue asserting himself from beyond the three-point arc in this matchup. Gobert struggles in pick-and-pop coverages, so expect the Spurs to lean on these sets often in this game. He’s attempted 13+ three-pointers in three of the last five games. This level of volume sets a clear path for at least four three-point makes.
