NFL Week 17 is almost in the books, pending Monday night’s matchup, but the opening odds for Week 18 are up on DraftKings Sportsbook and it’s time to give a looky-loo.
The Week 18 matchups are set, but motivations and player incentives will take precedence. While I am unable to list every incentive scenario, below is the current playoff picture:
AFC: KC, BUF, BAL, HOU, PIT and LAC are in. DEN, MIA and CIN for one spot.
NFC: MIN, PHI, DET and GB are in. LAR, TB, WAS, SEA and ATL for three spots.
There are two games on Saturday and 14 games on Sunday. There is no Monday night game.

Saturday Games, January 4
Ravens vs. Browns – 4:30 pm ET

KC and BUF have locked up the top two seeds in the AFC. BAL can wrap up the number three seed with a win in Week 18. I have a not-so-sneaky suspicion that they will take care of business against CLE, a team that lost 20-3 to a visiting Tua-less MIA squad in Week 17.
Steelers vs. Bengals – 8:00 pm ET

CIN has won four straight and they need to win in Week 18 while getting some help: DEN and MIA losses. PIT is in the playoffs, but they can win the AFC North with a win and a BAL loss.

Falcons vs. Panthers – 1:00 pm ET

ATL lost in Week 17, 30-24. While they are still technically alive to make the playoffs as the NFC South winner, they need TB to lose to NO while winning themselves. Carolina had been gritty but got spanked in Week 17 by TB, 48-14. These teams met in Week 6 with ATL winning 38-20, but that was with Kirk Cousins at quarterback.
Cowboys vs. Commanders – 1:00 pm ET

WAS can lock up the sixth seed in the NFC with a win over DAL. During Weeks 10 through 12, the Commanders lost three straight as Jayden Daniels was hobbled. They have won the last four games as Daniels looked like the explosive quarterback/playmaker from earlier in the season. DAL beat WAS, 34-26, back in Week 12.
Packers vs. Bears – 1:00 pm ET

GB is the seventh seed after the WAS win dropped them down from the sixth seed. Da Bears won all four preseason games and then four of the first six regular season contests. The bye came in Week 7 and they haven’t won since, dropping 10 straight.

HOU is locked into the fourth seed. TEN has three wins on the season, but they can sweep the series with HOU if they win in Week 18.

IND had a chance for the playoffs but lost to the now three-win NYG in Week 17. Joe Flacco went Wacco with 330 yards and two touchdowns as Anthony Richardson sat with back spasms. Flacco could go WACCO in Week 18 against a porous Jags pass defense that has allowed the most EPA per dropback.
Patriots vs. Bills – 1:00 pm ET

BUF is locked into the number two seed in the AFC while NE could get the number one pick in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. This is an interesting reverse spoiler scenario.

PHI is locked into the number two seed in the NFC. Will they allow Saquon Barkley to pursue the rushing record? It was a Pyrrhic victory for NYG in Week 17, as they notched their third win of the season but relinquished the right to the overall number-one pick in the upcoming draft.
Buccaneers vs. Saints – 1:00 pm ET

With the ATL loss on Sunday night, TB controls their destiny, as they sit atop the NFC South currently. NO has five wins on the season and they haven’t scored at least 20 points since Week 11.

KC has clinched the number one seed while DEN is battling for the last spot in the AFC playoff picture. KC will likely be resting players for some amount of time while DEN will pedal to the metal.

LAC is currently the sixth seed in the AFC and is slated to face BAL for Harbaugh Bowl II. If CIN beats PIT next week, though, they can move up to the fifth seed. LVR was in play for the number one overall pick, but they have now won two straight. It’s mind-boggling that some franchises are so short-sighted.
Rams vs. Seahawks – 4:25 pm ET
