Bowers has been incredible in his rookie season for the Raiders. This season’s NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year was expected to be a battle between the first-round quarterbacks Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels and Bo Nix. Even Michael Penix Jr. and Drake Maye are now in starting roles for their respective teams. It is clear at this point that Jayden Daniels is going to win the award, but it is Bowers who has the second-best odds at DraftKings Sportsbook. Bowers already holds the record for most receptions by a rookie tight end in NFL history and he needs just 10 receiving yards in this game to break Mike Ditka’s record for the most receiving yards by a rookie tight end in NFL history as well.
This is a good matchup for Bowers against a Saints team that is in total disarray. New Orleans has been riddled with injuries the past few weeks and its team has fallen apart. The Saints rank 20th in defensive EPA/play this season and they just gave up 34 points to the Packers last week in a shutout loss. The Saints should be completely deflated while the Raiders should be feeling good after finally breaking their losing streak last week against the Jaguars. Aidan O’Connell is actually playing pretty solid football at the moment. Since Week 13, the Raiders rank 23rd in offensive EPA/dropback after being 32nd in EPA/play through 12 weeks.
Bowers leads the Raiders in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns this season. He should be O’Connell’s main target in this game as the Raiders look to make it back-to-back wins. I am backing Bowers to go over 6.5 receptions in this game against the Saints. Bowers has double-digit targets in four of his past six games and with those numbers, Bowers should continue to pick up a lot of grabs. Frankly, this game could be quite ugly between two bad teams, and Bowers might be the most talented player on the field on either side with Chris Olave and Alvin Kamara both out for New Orleans. Bowers should emerge as the star of this game and rack up at least seven receptions along the way.
