UPDATE: Maye has returned to the game after being cleared.
Early in the first quarter of the New England Patriots’ matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers, starting quarterback Drake Maye has already made his way to the locker room and is questionable to return. The third-overall pick attempted to turn the corner on a scramble when Chargers CB Cam Hunt met Maye and delivered a hard hit to the head and upper body area.
Maye stayed on the turf for an additional minute before rising to his feet, jogging off the field, and being evaluated in the medical tent. After a brief evaluation in the medical tent, Maye was taken to the Patriots locker room. He is officially listed as questionable to return with a head injury.
Jacoby Brissett, who started the first five games of the season, is warming up on the sideline and will step into the quarterback role if Maye cannot return to the game. Given their 3-12 record and the importance of Maye to the organization, expect the Patriots to be cautious with their approach.
