The biggest name free-agent pitcher in baseball is now off the market, as Jon Heyman of the New York Post is reporting that Corbin Burnes has agreed to a six-year, $210 million contract with the Diamondbacks.
Burnes, 30, has been one of the five best pitchers in MLB over the last half decade, posting four sub-3.00 ERA seasons, while striking out 200+ batters three times in that stretch. He also has a career 1.06 WHIP.
The move to Arizona could hurt his numbers a bit, as Chase Field is way more of a hitters’ park than Camden Yards, while he’ll also now have to deal with both the Dodgers and Padres, and pitching at Coors Field. However, the D’Backs now boast one of the most formidable one-two punches in the game with Burnes and Zac Gallen, and despite losing Christian Walker to the Astros, could be quite good in 2025.
