The Atlanta Hawks will host the 13-17 Chicago Bulls at 7:30 p.m. ET tonight. The Bulls have beaten the Hawks twice this season, most recently on November 22. The Hawks are 15-15 and have lost their last three games.
The Hawks have seven players averaging double figures, but one stands out. That is former first-round pick Jalen Johnson, who increased his scoring, rebounding, and assist average from last season. He is averaging 19.4 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per contest.

This season, Johnson is leading the Hawks in rebounding with 10.1. He is also 12th in the NBA in that category. Johnson has had at least 10 or more boards in six of the last seven games. Johnson totaled 25 points with 13 rebounds against the Bulls in their previous matchup. In December, Johnson is averaging 10.8 rebounds per game. The Bulls allow 46.9 rebounds per contest, the third most in the NBA. Johnson records 8.5 defensive boards a game, eighth in the NBA. Chicago is also giving up the most defensive rebounds in the league (36.3).
On any night, Johnson has the potential to score 20-plus points, but until he proves he can consistently do so, it is wise to back him in the rebounding area. It has helped Johnson that he has played 36.5 minutes, the most on the team. That, along with Veteran big man Clint Capela’s smaller role, has benefited Johnson. Capela is playing 22.9 minutes a game and isn’t averaging double-digit rebounds for the first time since the 2016-17 season.
