Malik Nabers ($6,600) will miss his second straight practice Thursday with a toe injury and is trending toward being inactive this Sunday vs. the Colts. Nabers told the media Thursday that he is a “game-day decision” for Sunday.
Nabers has seen huge usage during his rookie season, leading the NFL with a 35.2 percent target share and his absence would create a huge void in the Giants’ offense.
If Nabers sits, Darius Slayton ($3,300) should operate as the team’s top receiver. Nabers missed Weeks 5 and 6, and in those games, Slayton went off for a season-best 29.2 FPTS vs. the Seahawks and then posted 11.7 FPTS vs. the Bengals. He racked up 11 targets in both of those contests.
Usage wise, Slayton led New York with a 32.8 percent target share and a 95 percent route rate, including three targets over 20 yards and one red zone target. Furthermore, he averaged a strong 2.2 YPRR.
The one problem is that these strong results came with Daniel Jones at quarterback and a less efficient Drew Lock ($4,900) is currently the starter for the Giants. That being said, Slayton should continue to see elite usage if Nabers is out and he will be a compelling value play at his near minimum salary in this excellent matchup vs. the Colts. Indianapolis is giving up the seventh most yards per pass (6.9) and they rank first in zone coverage usage this season. Notably, 76 percent of Slayton’s receptions have come against zone this season.
