The 8-7 Seahawks will look to keep their NFC West hopes alive when they visit the 4-11 Bears on Thursday Night Football. Both teams have struggled recently, putting up a combined record of 2-6 in the month of December. Seattle enters the contest as four-point favorites, with the over/under set at 42.5 points.
If Chicago has any hopes of securing an upset, they’ll need a stellar performance from their passing game. Quarterback Caleb Williams has had an up-and-down season, throwing for 3,271 passing yards and 19 touchdowns (five interceptions). The rookie’s connection with D.J. Moore is strong, as the wide receiver has snagged a team-leading 83 catches for 826 yards and five touchdowns.
Throughout his career, Moore has never been much of a scorer. The seventh-year pro has hauled in 34 touchdowns since 2018, averaging five over 17 games. However, Williams often looks his way in the red zone; the veteran has received 20 targets inside the 20, seventh-most in the NFL.
Seattle’s secondary has given up 227.0 passing yards over their last three games, 13th-most in the league. They’ve also allowed 24 passing touchdowns this season, tied for ninth-most in football. If the Seahawks get out to an early lead, Chicago should have some success throwing downfield.
Not much has gone right for the Bears this season, but they have shown an ability to move the ball when trailing in the second half. Against the Vikings and Lions in Weeks 12 and 13, Williams threw for 300+ yards and a combined five touchdown passes. If Chicago could find success against two top-ten secondaries, there’s no reason to think they can’t do it vs. Seattle.
Moore isn’t the most prolific scoring threat, but there’s enough underlying statistics that suggest he could snag one on Thursday. Look for the Bears to pepper their top weapon with plenty of end zone targets.
